Boards Archive] |
Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

Need some help AOE healing on my priest...

For 5 mans I have to mostly focus on the tank, so my AOE healing is relatively limited to the occasional PoH and CoH, with a Renew and Heal top up if the DPS are taking a lot of Dmg...
The issue I have is that this seems to be very mana intensive in the long run... sure, a couple of spams is okay but if I tried to keep it up throughout a fight I would go OOM fast. Hence, It doesn't seems workable for raid healing given my current gear setup (2500 spirit/78k base mana/5800SP).
I am almost always in Chakra Serenity opposed to Chakra Sanctuary, as I find the ability to cast a quick Renew and then top up the timer with a low cost Heal to be the most mana efficient way of keeping people up and having little downtime.
So I suppose my question is thus... if I am group healing a raid, Which Chakra should I be in??
Is it more advantagous to be in Sanctuary and casting AOE the occasional heal/renew - which seems to be very mana intensive.
Or in Serenity - where I can hit everyone with a Renew and then spam heals to keep the renew stacking... potential issue being it doesn't prioritise heals and is dependant on me keeping the renew's topped up (which I may not be able to do if I have to focus on one person)

What kind of combat regen do you have? If it's not 3000+ then you'll have some serious issues. In fact I would suggest 3500+ combat regen. Edit: The holy priest I run with on my raids is at 4000+ when raid buffed just to give you an idea of what you should be striving to get.

Pretty low atm... 2300 Combat regen. I don't think I would last much more than a minute of spamming AOE heals... I could keep going a while with renew/heal spam though.
I could probably reforge a bit... but most of my items already have Spirit, so doubt it would be a huge impact.

Sorry that I can't give more advice than I did, all I have to go by is the stats on my friend's priest. I play a holy paladin which doesn't require near as much combat regen as a holy priest.

Thanks... I think you have reitereated my own feelings on the matter... I just don't seem to have the uptime, so even though I have a powerful arsenal, I cannot use it. Goal to try and improve my regen, but if anyone has any specific tips on Hpriest mana they would be glasly received.

I heal as Disc in raids when needed, so I can't give real specific advise. One of our other healers in the guild is a Holy Priest, and while he has better gear than you (and thus better stats - 6000 SP, 3600 Combat Regen unbuffed.), he still takes advantage of Concentration potions, Mana Tide Totems, Hymn of Hope and smart Shadowfiend usage. Don't forget to use Lightwell, and make sure the DPS knows to use it. They can click on it and not lose their current target, great for helping out on the DPS for not a huge mana cost.
