Practical difference between the Ti2 vs 60D vs 7D?

Looking at the specs they seem largely similar. Is there a difference in the quality of the photos or is the difference just in stuff like burst speed and the case?

When it comes to pure image quality I assume the differences are pretty minimal, they all have iso 12800 capabilities and basically the same sensors. With that said, there are many minor differences that give them their own niche. The 7d is the fastest, has a magnesium based body that is heavier with better weather sealing. It has 19 af points vs 9 of the other two. It also has the largest viewfinder that offers 100% field of view vs. something like 95% and 96% for the rebel and 60d. The Rebel I believe tops out at 1/4000 of a second shutter where the 60 and 7d go to 1/8000, the rebel also syncs at 1/200 vs 1/250 of the other two. I think the biggest thing the 60d brings to the table is the articulated screen, slightly better burst than the rebel and the ability to use sd cards, if you prefer those. It really comes down to what you value the most, if you want speed and have the dough the 7d is the king of the crop sensors, if you simply want nice basic pictures and want to save some cash the rebel is a lot of bang for the buck and is also small and light. For me video isn't a priority so the 60d and it's articulated screen are just a gimmick and all my cards are CF so the sd ability aren't anything interesting.

Any input on the 50D? I ignored it originally because I figured it was just an older version of the 60D. After some research, my understanding is that it's more closely related to the 7D...

A lot of people complained that the 60d was more of a rebel style camera than an upgrade to the 50d. The 50d is faster than the 60 but not as fast as the 7d. The 7d has far superior auto focus system with 19 points where the 50 and 60 have the same 9 point af system of old. You get about 3 more megapixels with the 7d over the 50d but to me that is pretty unimportant. The 50d does not have video and like the 60d only offers 95% field of view through the viewfinder compared to 100 on the 7d. The price difference is huge too. The AF system and frames per sec of the 7d are fantastic, but the price of the 7d is significantly more than a 50d, 60d or rebel. I would buy a used 50d and some good lenses before buying a new 7d.

Thanks. Looking at getting a new camera through the Canon Loyalty Program. I was considering the 7D for a bit, but I can't justify more than a thousand dollars on a camera right now. Was looking at the 60D, but I heard that isn't part of the program so may end up with a 50D or Ti2. Guess it comes down to whether I really want video or not...

some things to consider: How big of a priority is a higher fps and how often would you use it? A lot of people want the option to shoot at 8 or 6fps but rarely take advantage of it. Even if video is currently a priority, do you want the option? What do you prefer as far as ergonomics? The 50d is larger and heavier than a rebel, I personally hated how small my XT was and going to a 40d felt much better. What are the price points of the loyalty plan? If going with the rebel saved you enough to buy a new lens (or eat for a week) it might be better than a 50d.

Stupid question: Which of those options will take high-capacity SD cards?

I can only speak for the 50D as thats what I have. It has a CF interface. I think the 60D can use either CF or SD.

I think the rebel takes sd too now. After moving from a rebel xt to a 40d the rebel really did feel like a toy, but I have monster hands.

Bah, I was leaning toward the 50D but I don't want to switch to a new memory format...
