Take the time to mkae sure it's really cancelled. Several things have happened to me and some friends.

They cancelled their account.

They continued to be charged.

or

Instead of stopping the charges, a different card on file was simply charged.

or

The billing cycle was changed but not stopped.


And yes, feel free to say "Duh, they didn't do it right!" But when numerous people who have previously cancelled their accounts discovered they're being charged for something they have previously cancelled successfully it makes you wonder.

I had a six month subscription. I cancelled recently after Cata was released. It was supposed to up some weeks ago. I checked and I've been charged fo thee seperate accounts. I only have two. My cousins and guildy have both had the same sot of problems. Blizzard was little help. I had to refute the charges with my credit company.

So just a heads up. Double check and make sure you account is truly cancelled if you've gone throught the process.

Actually, this is always a good idea. In college, I worked for a massive bank that shall go unnamed. The number of people that canceled something and kept getting charged for it was incredible.

If you have an automatic monthly charge that you cancel- get some sort of confirmation, and then pay attention to your next statement. (ESPECIALLY if you cancel it online, or some other way that doesn't require an actual person to acknowledge your cancellation.)

In my opinion, a basic precaution when you cancel any recurring online account, and not only WoW or a game, is to also remove your payment details. It's the first thing I did in any MMORPG I've quit, including Rift recently. This way, you're 100% sure they won't, either accidentally or maliciously, take any money from you.

Agree about removing info. Oddly enough they won't let you remove it all. Or it doesn't get removed. My cousin had to call in and get a card removed. I'm certain I've seen the option to remove payment details before but last time Ichecked I couldn't find it either.

The one I used exclusively for WoW had a fraudulent charge show up (from a merchant who thankfully declined it) on it after I cancelled my WoW accounts, which tripped the bank and I having a discussion and the proper cancellation process of the CC number and them issuing me a new one.

I am left pondering the concept of someone who would 'borrow' a CC number to order flowers on line. silly

i canceled one month in to cata then a few days ago i resubbed to see what it felt like after the last patch.

set up a one month recurring sub with paypal. played one weekend and canceled again. then, went to paypal and removed my recurring sub. blizz never charged me for the first month so i basically played that weekend for free?

at least i wasn't out the 15 bucks to realize nothing had changed.

Well, I suppose we could sue them for fraud, I am sure they would like that much more. Do you know why they frown on reversed charges? Because it gets reported and gives the offending company a bad rep. Perhaps if they didn't fraud their customers they wouldn't have this problem.

I have cancelled numerous times, including 2 months ago for the last time, and never had any trouble. The peon cries, they make a last attempt to get you to reconsider, and then it is done. I also do like Korrigan mentioned and remove all billing info as a simple precaution.

Aside from the fact that it would be extremely impractical to sue over a $15 monthly charge, you cannot sue Blizzard for charging you an extra month beyond the time you ended your subscription. Chargebacks are your recourse.

And who are chargebacks reported to? I doubt that they are reported anywhere. There are TONS of them and many of them are bogus anyway. In fact, I would not be surprised if more than 50% was just a case of the person not recognizing the charge until we looked at it further. It was especially fun when some lady would want to dispute an unknown charge on her husband's card and then when I look it up, the merchant is listed as..... an escort service. That is a fun conversation.

I got an email from Blizzard.com telling me Im attempting to sell my WoW account. The email looked suspicious only because some of the sentences didnt really seem "professional". That and they sent it to an email address I havent used for WoW in years.

I love how i got an e-mail from *blizzard* that apparently i have made my "38th" violation inwow and will lose my account if i don't send them my info to verify it's me and it was sent to an e-mail i don't use and have never used for anything to do with blizzard or my wow account.


the greatest scheme of all time i think though was the one that specifically said in the last sentace. If you have an authenticator on your account do not bother responding!!!!
