Okay my authenticator is dying. I just had to call and have it reset. My question is do I get another or is the mobile on just a good.

Mobile is just as good. I switched from the device to a mobile one on my android phone.

did they correct the issue with the iphone authenticator? where if the phone went completely dead (no battery) you had to re-sync the authenticator to your account?

Just make sure you make a note of the activation code, and put it someplace where you can find it. Saves a phone call. Every time you download the authenticator you get a new activation code.
