Network Filters
Decal FileService - No DLL
Win XP
The Decal FileService shows a red X and says NO DLL.
I'm trying to figure it out for a friend. My decal works fine and always has.
Things we have tried. Uninstalling Decal and Reinstalling decal. Removing all the plugins didn't work.
Nothing shows up in came. Just the normal client without decal at all.
ISO Ideas?
Edit: Can update but still shows red X for FileService.
Only thing that changed on the machine was Windows Updates.

Keep in mind both myself and Gabs have dealt with issues with decal before. We got the basics. I've searched for fixes for this and can't find anything. I'm here asking for help because I can't find the answer myself.

In that previous link others said that XP will not let you remove the registry entry by using a script. Can you look to make sure that its actually removing that registry entry after you uninstall decal? If it isn't you can just manually remove it.

She says she checked the last time manually after running the script and it did remove it. But she said she is going to uninstall and remove the entry manually this time and will see what happens.
Honestly my bet is that the same issue happens.

That is where her issue is and once she installs the folders even have the files in there for this to work and it still doesn't. Decal isn't recognizing that they are even there.
She just uninstalled and double checked the registry and its not there so it should be fine.

My opinion is that the fileservice dll somehow got removed from the GAC. If you have the .NET 2.0 SDK you can run Admin Tools -> Microsoft .NET 2.0 Framework Configuration, choose Manage the Assembly Cache, then View List of Assemblies in the Assembly Cache and look in the list to see if Decal.FileService is actually in there. If it's not, you'd need to add it with gacutil. This is some advanced stuff, though, and I have no clue what kind of crazy software people run that removes things from the GAC.

I know her decal was working roughly 2 weeks ago. She thinks it was caused by some update to the computer. I'm not sure though. It worked for the longest time with no issues and just out of the blue comes a doozie. :P

Well she didn't have the 2.0 config so we had to get her to install that and we've ran into issues with that so will post back once we get the rest of this figured out. I might end up just remoting into her pc to help her out.

i think something in one of the updates wasnt working so well, or didnt dl right.
re-doing it later is fixing which ever update wasnt right.
