Um, after realizing that the topic wasn't "Did Microsoft/Turbine already decide how to ruin the game a long time ago?" I don't understand the question.

If you are refering to the content of patchs/updates etc. having been planned years and years in advance. No I do not beleive so. I think the story is still being actively writen..

So you're asking if they had the plan to wait until 2010 and redo the landscape textures when they released the game in 1999? Or to add new playable races starting 9-10 years after launch?
No I don't think they have a 20 year plan that they've been following this whole time.

No clue. I'm just amazed they are still dedicate enough to continue. It was always my favorite feature and the first thing I decried another game for not having.

I really miss the auld days, and I wish I could convince some of my RL friends to roll some newbs and do some starter quests with me. As long as Turbine keeps the game running, I am still waiting for a renaissance where AC will become retro/ironically fun to play. Just a couple tiny articles in Wired, Maxim, or Vice would send people POURING in. My 2 cents.

I'm certain there have been multiple plans, and multiple revised plans as the game moved from Turbine to MS back to Turbine and into the twilight world of boutique MMOs. The team working on the new SW MMO was over 400 people. The team maintaining AC is likely three or four. Which is the good investment? AC is still making money, as the initial investment is paid for. The team burn is low. That shiny new star wars game needs to come out of the box as a WoW killer, or it'll be thought of as a failure.

AC is not sufficiently user friendly, specifically new player user friendly, to ever experience a renaissance

I think you mean there aren't enough intelligent users to get the hang of it.

Eve Online is getting new people all the time and its a LOT less user friendly than AC.
