Gear and my curiosity

I was wondering, what gear do you all have?
And what do you actually USE the most? Is it the same as your favourite?
And finally, how much do you use it?. I'll go ahead and answer for myself first.
My gear, in no particular order:
Nikon D300
Nikon SB-900 (flash)
Manofrotto tripod, with ballhead.
Lenses:
Nikkor AF-S 10.5mm f2.8 Fisheye
Nikkor AF-S 35mm f1.8G
Nikkor Ai-S 50mm f1.2 (manual lens)
Nikkor AF-S 50mm f1.4G
Nikkor AF-D 85mm f1.4 IF
Nikkor AF-S 105mm f2.8 Macro
Nikkor AF 17-55mm f2.8
Nikkor AF 12-24mm f4
Nikkor AF-S 55-200mm f4.5-5.6
I also have a couple of reflectors, a bag to keep it all in and a crumpler bag that fits my camera & lens + 1-3 accessories.
What do I use the most?
It depends on alot of things really, the most important beeing what is currently new :P
The one lens I've used the most after I got it, I think is the 35mm. And that one is also currently my favourite. (with the 17-55mm on a good second place.)
And the most important question: how much do I actually use it?
It varies alot, during the summer I shoot quite a bit, and I also do a few comissioned jobs throughout the year, but all in all I don't take enough photos.
During the winter I mostly let the camera rest, except for a few jobs I take on during the weekends. Most of the time it is dark when I go to work, and it's dark when I go home..
so, how about you?

Since we just started late last year, I dont have much gear.
Camera:
Canon 50D
Lenses:
28-135mm IS F/3.5-5.6 (kit lens)
50mm f/1.8 (the nifty fifty)
Flashes:
Canon 420ex
Nikon SB-28
YN 560
A few light stands and a Bogen 3020 tripod (the actual italian built one I got from my dad)
radio triggers are RF-602's. 2 transmitters and 3 receivers for remote firing of camera.
1 43" Westcott reversible umbrella
a 36" DIY soft box
and a 50something inch 5way reflector
The majority of the time, I am using a single flash, the SB28 on a light stand with umbrella.

Canon Rebel xti Canon 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 (kit) Canon 50mm f/1.8 Canon 55-250 f/4-5.6 IS Sunpak Flash Hama Tripod Canon RC-1 Remote I rarely use the zoom lens because even with the IS my shots turn out shaky, I probably just need some practice with it, but I've been really lazy this year about all my arty type stuff.

Handy rule of thumb that might help, Shalis:
shuttertime = 1/focal width.
So if you're at 250mm you should use 1/250s or less.

Canon 40d + grip Canon 50 1.8 Tamron 17-50 2.8 Sigma 70-300 Manfrotto monopod piece of junk quantaray tripod yn-560 flash, rf 602 triggers, westcott umbrella, manfrotto umbrella mount, smith victor stand Before I got the 17-50 2.8 I kept the 50 prime on my camera 90 percent of the time, going to the sigma only when i needed the extra reach like at the zoo or a sporting event or something like that. My next upgrade will probably be a used sigma 70-200 2.8 if I can find a decent deal on a sharp one. I also would like to second shoot weddings these season so I need a TTL flash eventually.

since my wife and I are both into photog, I am thinking about picking up a second camera, and the 40D is sitting at the top of the list, with the 5D mkI just under it. Other than the obvious, price, why should I get the 40D instead of the 5D?
our first and only DSLR is our 50D.

Ive never used a 5dMKI, only my 5dmkII's, so I cant say how it performs. Through the first year of "professional" work I did as an automotive photographer, I used a 40D. And the majority of images that I still sell prints of, are 40D shots. Its light, great high ISO abilities considering how old the body is. I really don't know what would be the better choice. Two portrait photographer friends of mine use 5D MKI's and love them more than I love cotton candy, which is saying a lot.

40D is crop though right? and the 5d isn't ?
If that's the case you might have to consider that getting the focal lengths you're used to on a crop-camera for a full-format one, is going to cost you

the only full frame cameras that canon makes (that I know of) are the 1D and 5D, all the rest are either 1.5 or 1.6 crop factor. The 40D is 1.6
