Boards Archive] |
Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

Shaman class question
|
In lieu of the "Which Class" poll, I had some questions about shamans... the class receiving the vast majority of votes.
Recently returned, rerolling on a new server to join a friend and experience all the new lowbie content. I've played frost mage, BM hunter, and dabbled in feral druid (none of which did much in WotLK). Thought about rerolling another hunter since they're so easy to level/solo, but thought i might want to try a new class.
The poll got me thinking about the shaman. But I've been gone a long time, and uncertain what the status of shamans are these days.
Which tree to spec for leveling? What are the key talents to look for? What are shamans doing well at in grouped/raided PvE? Healing or DPS? Will I be able to find groups?
Any thoughts, comments or other input is appreciated.
Thanks!

YES to everything you asked, mate. Shamans are amazing in every aspect: soloing, 5 mans, raids, and PVP. For leveling, if you're planning on NOT healing, take either Elemental or Enhancement. Focus on DPS talents, and you can't go wrong. If you'd like to heal in 5 mans, go Restoration. At level 30, when you get dual spec (for a measly 10 gold) then you can switch between healing and a DPS spec, so you have some more choices. If I were to heed the advice on the poll I created, I'd level as Elemental/Resto, since they share the same gear at the earlier levels. But I do hear Enhancement is a LOT of fun. Take your pick and pwn, my friend. The Shaman have a LOT of utility to bring to the table, too. Everyone will love you.

Shaman class question

Ive run a shaman since day one of WoW. Regardless of when I played this class, it was always my favorites. My shaman on Draka will always be my "main".
Years ago it was only viable to level as Enhancement, then either continue on or change to Elemental when you hit Outland. Nowadays, either of the two can be used to level very efficiently, easily and quickly.
This is a hybrid class, so you dont do as much DPS as a straight up fire mage but in all honesty, you can get near their output with the right gear/buffs. Plus you get fantastic solo/group buffs, a second hearthstone and a bunch of other cool toys. Im partial to elemental and have always been. Throw in a secondary talent spec and you can switch to resto for some great healing ability with the same gear as elemental. I will admit, enhance shamans seem to out DPS me slightly when Im in a 5 man though.
I leveled from 1-50 as elemental on Icecrown as a Dwarf Shaman. It took me about 4 days or so. Very easy and fun.

Shaman class question

I recently made a Goblin Shaman to play with a friend as well. He tanks as a Paladin. It's somewhat cool, although I get bored of it fairly easily, but I've played WoW forever. You don't get a "Big Heal" for quite a while, near or after 60 I believe. Surge is sort of a big heal, but costs a lot, and it's a quick cast. Once you get Riptide, healing gets even easier. Most Shaman healing is just keeping Earth Shield up, then casting the odd heal to keep them high in health. Riptide + Chain Heal is great, as the former buffs the latter. Once you get Water Shield + Mana Spring, healing becomes laughable, unless your tank/group sucks. I rarely even drop below 95% mana right now(early 70's, going through instances with zero breaks, often pulling next group before first is dead). I've never played an Elemental Shaman, just never interested me. Played Enchancement for a while prior and during Wrath, and it was a fun spec.

The only shaman spec I run into that is the least bit hard to kill in BGs is that of a resto shaman. It may be a warrior thing though. The other 2 specs are fairly easy fights. I do agree that they are nice to have in 5-mans (bloodlust is actually nice for some heroic bosses now), raids, etc. My level 80 shaman was also good at leveling back in the day. Nowadays every class is good at leveling so being good "solo" doesn't mean much anymore.

I like ele/resto for leveling up since you can pretty much get away with using the same gear with both specs for awhile.

Shaman pvp is bleh. One of the worst right now. PvE we are holding our on Elemental and Enhance. I'm ele and I run with an enhance and both of us pull 11k-20k depending on the fight and conditions. I've pulled 19k single target with some lucky hurricane procs, elemental mastery and heroism chained together so I had crazy haste pretty much the entire fight.

Thank you for the feedback, I think I'll try one.
Was going to go hunter route again on this new server since they're so easy mode to level up, but kind of want to try something else this time.
