[VN
Boards Archive] |
Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

They always happen around the sound of flowing water, like waterfalls. It never came to realization until just now. I jumped off the ledge in Gundrak into the water below, landed right under the water stream that fills the bottom, disconnected. I hear the running water at the loading screen for about 30 seconds, soon as I materialize I am immediately dc'd. Tried logging in about 9 times now. This got me thinking, every other area during WotLK I've had dc issues had running water close by. Anyone else notice this...

Yup. But I always attributed it to the water graphics myself, not the sound. But yeah, I was getting DC'ed when I went near water for the first few weeks after the water upgrade patch. Hasnt happened since. Or at least I havent noticed it.

Turned sound off in options, materialized with the usual second or two long loading screen. Soooooo, is this a hardware issue? lol

Sounds like it must be (a hardware issue). I have had issues with my sound getting "stuck" and repeating the same sound endlessly until I restart the game (not just log out/in). I use on-board sound rather than a sound card. Before that I had other issues with disconnects that would persist until I rebooted the game entirely - eventually I would just keep a second instance of the game running at the login screen so that when I got one of these disconnects, I could just re-log in, boot myself off of the other instance and get back into the game in the usual few seconds as opposed to the 5 minute delay.

If ignorance were painful, half the posters here would be on morphine drips. Everyone playing WoW knows everything about playing two classes: 1) their own and 2) Hunters

I like that, good call on the 2nd instance, thanks.

man i wish i could remember where i first saw this so i could give you a link....long story short though this isn't the first time i've heard of this issue and i think the only resolution the other person ended up finding was turning the sound for it off too. updated drivers and such didn't work.

Thought this was gonna be about the alt-tab disconnects. If I'm flying somewhere, manually or on a flightpath, and I alt-tab out while in full-screen mode, 99% of the time I am disconnected from the game during the flight. Googled it, known bug, and the only solution was to play the game in full-screen windowed mode. That causes a drop of like 10 fps for me, which I don't like lol, so I don't bother. But thanks for the warning Arc.

Brought this up with the tech guys in my guild and their first response was: "was it sound?" and the second response immediately after was "Blizzard has had trouble with sound files before".
Thanks for the heads up, we will be paying more attention.

There are those who play tank classes, and those that tank. The weapon is only as good as the person wielding it. Free advice is often worth what you pay for it: nothing.

Wow, that's been my experience exactly. Now playing in windowed mode, mostly cause I'm grinding archaeology, which means I've got lots of flight time to surf the web or w/e. The biggest problem with the DC, especially on my wife's computer, is the very long load-in to get back in the game. Her's lasts upwards of 3-4 minutes sometimes, totally ridiculous.

I held off a few days before buying Cata, and once I used the key for my account, and it downloaded or did some data stuff, I started crashing occasionally.

I've had intermittent crashes across multiple machines over the years. That is more what this was about, narrowing down a client problem. That said, when the 4.0 patch dropped, everyone I know who plays on the east coast had persistent and random dcs for the first few weeks. One of my cousins is still getting pwnt like 10x a night, even after changing from wireless to a hard line. EDIT: I only narrowed it down during WotLK.

Same here. One game I just played with the sound I think until the game told everyone a fix in the settings.
