Looks like they are planning for two more expansions and this game to go on another 5 years or so, I pretty much thought CAT was it and they would finally move on to developing WOW2.

Looks pretty legit.
There wont be a WoW2. Why would there be? If your Blizzard you have 3 -5 years yet of extremely good WoW1 revenue before a natural major drop off occurs. Then you can relase a new IP MMO and watch the money pour in regardless of how good the game is. You will have so many classes of paying customers it would make any capatilist envious:
1 - Those who still love WoW and will pay to also play your new MMO.
2 - Those who used to love WoW, appreciate what Blizzard has done, and jump onto its next big thing with 2 happy feet.
3 - People who liked WoW ok, stopped playing, but appreciate what Blizzard did with the product, and therefore feel its only smart to try the new product.
4 - People who still love WoW and will just keep paying to play that game.
5 - Those who are new to the genre, have heard of this thing called WoW, and are up for trying the new game by the company that made it.
6 - Those who never heard of Blizzard, sort of heard of WoW, but are interested in trying a new MMO (usually their first).
7 - WoW/Blizzard haters who are still willing to try something new just because, well its new.
8 - All the people who try the new product, dont like it, and go back to the same old WoW.
Im probably missing a few scenarios. At any rate you can see how the 2 IP's working side by side for Blizzard ensures a very long and succesfull future for the company. At least for the next 10 years.

^^ My thoughts exactly Sly. My guess is they want Cata to have some legs (12 months) before they put another product on the shelf.
Sucks though.

Nope. D3 is not a competitor to WoW at all. They want to ensure quality with D3.

WoW will probably go on for another 10 years. Diablo 3 coming out next christmas is perfect, as it provides something to do while we wait for the next expansion pack after we get sick of SW:TOR. As for the overall validity of this chart, it is nothing that we haven't speculated on before. If it is real, it doesn't change anything.

I hope the Diablo 3 wait is about quality, but I seriously doubt it. As much fun as I'm sure it will be (eagerly anticipating it!) it does work on the same entertainment model as WoW imo.

If so then you have to figure WoW will get consoled soon perhaps by even the next expansion because that is where the biggest growth in gaming is. It seems to be the direction they are headed too, there is obvious dumbing down of the game, talents points are virtually obsolete already, everyone ends up in the same armors, with same builds etc... it is like they are prepping for the move.

I think that's why it's a great fake. Even it were legit, plans are subject to change. I'm just saying, given Blizzard's history, does anyone think that they can put out an expansion in 18 months? I think that's wishful thinking by both the company and players.

Ah, sorry - missed that "MMO" part. Still waiting on the break-thru game in that category (MMO/console).
Edit:
All they have to do is take this: 2.Mario Kart Wii (24.01 million)[67], add unlimited multiplayer and the ability to kill your opponent drivers in varied and gruesome ways and they have it!!

None like WoW yet, however when they finally settle on a cross platform Internet gaming solution where XBOX, PS3 and the WII, (likely the next generations of those systems) can all play on the same servers much like Windows and Mac players can do with WoW now, there will be.

So you see consoles going cross platform in the next 1-2 years and WoW being ready to port during that time? If they do manage to create a cross platform where all console systems can play on the same servers why would they leave PC/Mac out of it?

I think that's why they made such sweeping changes to the game for Cata. THIS version of the game is MUCH easier to build upon. In fact, a blue somewhere said something to that effect -- that they made such drastic changes for this very reason. Don't ask me to find it, it was like 6 months ago. ^_^

The latest changes were done specifically so blizzard could recycle with as little revenue invested as possible. They will easily milk this cash cow for another 10 years without producing anything that is actually new, and WoW still has a period of growth left before its inevitable decline. Like UO, the game will go into recycle/maintenance mode with much fewer staff and overhead, all while raking in the subscription money. They don't have to offer anything new, they just have to re-skin it every 18 months to 2 years like they are doing now. Pure business genius.

Yeah, as long as Sony and EA keep releasing crap MMOs, then WOW can live on for many years. 10 more years would not surprise me in the slightest. Because of the art style, the game doesn't depend on using cutting edge technology to look modern and Blizzard has been doing a good job keeping the game looking nice after 6 years so far. As for WOW on an MMO. Consoles sell lots of games (partly because the piracy isn't nearly as bad as the PC in my opinion). But those are entertainment systems for the living room, relaxing on the couch. And you really need a keyboard and mouse for an MMO like WOW. I have an Xbox 360 and a PC. I like play some games on the console and others on the PC. If Blizzard put WOW on my Xbox 360, I might hook up a wireless keyboard and mouse and goof around a little with it on the couch. But I suspect I'd still end up playing it on the PC most of the time. And most console owners probably already have a WOW capable PC as well. So what would be the point of putting resources into maintaining two game codes. Consoles need an MMO that is designed specifically for them. The MMOs that try to be cross platform just end up being mediocre on both or really sucking on one platform.

For now, but they are gradually taking things away, reducing choices, for example; talents in virtually all specs, in all classes can literally be auto-filled in now because there is so little variation most all end up identical in the end. I think the only reason it is not auto filled in already is to let players can think they actually have a choice in the matter. Most all class rotations are have now been reduced to two to four button mashing which would work fine on a game pad. It is pretty self evident at least to me consolized WoW is the direction they are heading.

Some people call only using 3 buttons a dumbed down version but with a little marketing it will be called hard mode which only the L33T can accomplish. Then the next obvious step would where you could actually tell if person was using a console or a computer by inspecting them just to make sure they were really only using a couple of buttons. Now they are ready for specific hard mode/console achievements on the bosses. All the cool guilds will force their players to switch to console so they get the required achievements to increase their Guild standing. And that is the XMas story of how Blizz will move the player base to consoles and anybody left using computers will be called scrubs and full keyboard turners. TGIF

Deionnara posted: That 1.5 year expansion cycle seems a bit ambitious.
I think they realized with ICC that you can't sit on 1 raid for a year+ and retain numbers. I think it made it to a recent blue post that they, yes its been said before, hope to increase the speed of getting content out. This information looks pretty accurate to what I would expect and nothing is all that surprising. So next Blizzcon will be a big ole' D3 year I guess They announced the final class and arena this year for D3 so what else surprising could they say about it now? TBH I wasn't expecting arena. Project Titan... I want to know more. I am pretty excited for a new IP to come out of blizzard.
