I am looking to try some of the UI add ons. Is using Curse safe or how would you recommend getting them? Also which Addons should I look at first?

I use that site and wowinterface.com as well with no problems, as long as you have a good firewall and AV running and scan the downloads you should be ok.

In a word, NO. They have been the source of large scale account loss on multiple occasions. You can use their site, but use extreme caution. Their addons are safe so long as you manually install them. Use of their client is perhaps risky, but unlikely. What you really need to be concerned about are any advertisements that they serve up at their sites or in their client.

I wouldn't use the curse client. Firefox with Flash block and no script will make the site itself safe. A decent AV package will ensure that zip files are safe themselves. Consider that the WoW executable just reads addon files, there is no execution of malware possible with the files themselves. Just have to be careful of executables disguised as zip files. Once again a decent AV package works well along with basic precautions against the site itself. If you can run something virtualized all the better to be ultra safe.

I've been using Curse client for two years with no problems. Just don't randomly search for and install addons without already knowing they're safe.

Since starting up again I havn't bothered to download any add ons, however when I was playing for a few years previously I never had a problem. I don't even run AV software to be honest. I do use no script and fire fox and I install my apps manually. I don't need any help to copy and paste something into my add on folder.

Remember, a couple of years back their addon manager client itself was the cause of a number of issues. Also their ads were a frequent unwitting distributor of malware. NEVER use a third party addon manager client, always download the addon and scan it yourself, then install it. If you do that, then Curse and Wowinterface are both equally safe.

I use curse with the curse client to update my main addons. I usually compare wowinterface and curse if I get something new, so far so good. I also would recommend an authenticator just incase.

I think the site has some risk associated with it. I only do manual installs, and it's very easy. I don't not use the curse client, and only visit the site with Firefox + extras goods to remove scripts and ads.

Authenticator and you're good. Even before that though, I never had a problem. While some addons are not safe and do cause erros (usually right after a major patch), it seems like a popular thing for ppl and the gms to autoblame the addons for hacks and bugs. It would be nice if they would actually investigate some things. I even had 3 different gms try to help me with a problem and keep telling me its the addons even after I uninstalled them the first time and kept them uninstalled until I gave up and just lived with it.

I also use Curse to get my few addons, but am extraordinarily careful about it. Scans before / after, no cookies, manual install of addons, and of course: USE AN AUTHENTICATOR. Slightly off topic, but it really cannot be said enough.

I always run from Curses, damn things suck my capacitor dry and wipe out any active tank or speed boosting I am doing. Unless I was in a passive tanked Ishtar/Tengu/Drake, but even then I probably wouldn't be able to maintain tackle and the Curse would get away.

I use the Curse Client, have ever since it came out. I haven't had an issue, but I also change out my password once a month and have an authenticator. Only time my account was jacked was when I was letting my son play it and he went lookin for warcraft pets on Google, must have hit a site that logged it all. But Blizz got it all back for me, I got an authenticator and everything has been solid.

The only negative I have about Carbonite pretty much applies to every add on: Just about every major patch breaks it. Fortunately, the devs are pretty quick to update it. Bookmark that link and you can go back and download the latest version any time there's a major (or sometimes minor) change.

Vuh'do Fubar Bartender DHUD (I hate playing without the Arc HUD now...) Auctionator Recount Need to Know Mapster & Cromulent (These 2 together is basically a lightweight alternative to Carbonite for me.) Deadly Boss Mods Those are my most important ones that I can think of off the top of my head...... If you have an authenticator, you should be fine. I have never had a problem with Curse.

The curse client itself is fine to use. The problem with it, what 2+ years ago now, was that an addon got a keylogger in it and it was auto-updated through the curse client. I haven't heard of this happening for a while as I am sure curse is very active in checking submitted addons. I use the premium curse client and have had 0 issue.
