In patch 4.0.3, Wintergrasp queuing was changed so that each battle attempts to match the factions at a 1-to-1 ratio. This is the exact system being used for Tol Barad in Cataclysm. While we understand that this inflates queue times for factions which are vastly overpopulated on select realms, we prefer this system over using Tenacity. In addition, the new system at least encourages playing on a faction that's better balanced against the opposing faction. With the old Wintergrasp functionality, players were almost encouraged to be on an overpopulated faction, further contributing to realm balance issues.
That said, we'll review realms with significant faction imbalances on a case-by-case basis in the event we need to take further action.

How is going to effect all the players who changed factions to be part of the roflstomp that was Wintergrasp? I know my server had many players swapping to horde just to win and hold WG on a regular basis. I'm glad I wasn't part of that crowd, lol.

I really have no sympathy for the Horde that don't get in via the new system. You all had a fun heyday of free wins by surfing the zerg. Just like I knew, my alliance server is winning the attacking WGs now that is balanced. Tenacity is not even close to worth numbers. If you want to PvP whenever you want, should have been with us from the start.

It didn't affect the Horde on my server aside from screwing over a bunch of people by not letting them into WG. We have been so used to rolling alliance with 10+ tenacity that it's just a joke now that they have none.

That's funny. A group of designers recognized the problem five years ago and adapted to build AV, but someone recently thought they were smarter and failed. Just continues to prove that a two faction system can't be balanced, yet everyone keeps designing them.

Good change and about bloody time! yes, I have horde and alliance. It was absolutely stupid the onesided nature of the battles. short term, it will go from a 40+vs 10 to a 10v10. However people that was turned off WG due to the stupidity that was tenacity....now I would expect we will have more people interested in coming back to a more balanced wg. Frequency etc....yeah that was stupid. But if there was demand and Blizz really wanted, they could quite easily add WG to the battlegrounds selection (decoupled from VOA)....but I guess that would be too smart/stupid depending on each posters personal preference on WG/state of PVP within wow. <--- avid pvp'er. but wow is not built for pvp....but it has a pvp-lite model that half works, some of the time.....

On my server Alliance outnumber the Horde in total numbers and yet every night that I went into WG they were outnumbered by quite a bit. So just because the the Alliance were lazy and couldn't bother themselves to participate in WG the Horde are penalized by not being allowed to participate? That sounds really fair...

Because this happens on EVERY server and in EVERY battlegroup. You can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time.

Some random thoughts about the change. The queue system for Wintergrasp doesn't seem to work. If you don't get in right away it never seems to call you while dropping the queue and re-queuing usually gets you right in, strange. On my server we (the alliance) generally held Wintergrasp 3/4 of the time before the change. Since it has reversed, we have it about 1/4 of the time or less. Fixing an unbalanced situation with another unbalanced situation does not give you balance. In the past if the attacker broke through to the inner courtyard in the first ten minutes or so it was mostly game over. Now with the smaller teams the defense appears to have a huge advantage. As tactics adapt maybe the attacker will have a better chance than currently. Six on six or twelve on twelve is wrong for this battleground. Allowing a person to queue up as soon as one match is finished would beef up the numbers making for a hopefully better experience for all. Why does this battleground need to have be perfectly balanced player wise when the normal battlegrounds are allowed to start extremely unbalanced? I have seen 10 vs 5 in WSG and similarly wacked numbers in the other battlegrounds.
