Also, yes. They are basically buying up anything anyone writes that is YA and vampire based. I find it annoying because almost all of my favorite urban fantasy authors have started a YA series. It will be nice if all of those kids grow up and further vitalize the adult market, but for now I can't stand YA books.

I finished Bloodsucking Fiends. I am going to give it a 13 out of 20.
It was fun and whimsical with enough engaging stuff in the story to keep it interesting. It is like a Pratchett book with more plot and less humor. I liked how it was suspenseful in sections with detentes that gave me places to put the book down.
My biggest complaint with the book was the characters. I didn't find either main character particularly likable and I found their relationship to be extremely shallow, almost farcical. The author never showed me a relationship, he just told me about it which is not very convincing. The characters also have no growth; there were no real side plots at all. We see a bit of Jody struggling with her condition but again we don't see her come to terms with it or grow in to it - we are just told that she got over it.
I would just mark it off as a light read that was entertaining but the author laid the ground work for character development and did nothing with it.
Otherwise, the author did a respectable job with his foreshadowing, the plot was tight and the prose was enjoyable. I will read the other books in the series some day but what this book really accomplished was making me want to read some Pratchett and reading Pratchett always makes me want to read a deep epic fantasy novel.

that's about what I would have gave it. I actually wanted you to get to the last book so you can tell me wtf... it didn't go in a direction that I thought it would and it left me feeling odd about it. Not horrible, just different that I would have like to have seen.
I dunno who that other author is, although, I'm guessing it's one that a friend or two has recommended to me because of Moore. haha.

Over the past year I've read just about every PG Wodehouse book available. The Jeeves books were actually quite enjoyable if you can dig the dry brit humor proper society thing. No gay people in them, fat or otherwise, but if you want to pretend the Jeeves and Wooster are gay lovers it does add a certain zest to the stories.
