I was talking to a few friends the other day and I brought up this subject of the Saturday teams getting an extra day of rest over the Sunday teams. So the question is should they play both Divisional round games from one conference on Saturday, and then both games from the other conference on Sunday. This way in the Championship games the teams playing against each other will have had the same days of rest. To me this seems like the best way to do it, doubt it will ever happen though.

its not like its unprecedented, teams that play Monday night games have to play on short weeks all throughout the season, and generally every team that's in the playoffs has usually been featured in MNF at least once during the season

the only thing that is F'd up is having the Pro Bowl before the SB! why in the hell would you do that? you honestly think that some of the starters will play if they are going to have to play in the SB?
completely ridiculous.

I believe that they said it's to increase the relevancy of the Pro Bowl with the average fan, but any player chosen from the two Super Bowl teams WILL NOT play for fear of injury before the Super Bowl.

I have not watched a Pro Bowl in many many years. What is the point, you can barely do anything on defense and offense is limited too. Pro Bowl is almost a completely different set of rules all together. I think they should just do away with the probowl game, and do like college does with their All American teams. Just name people to the pro bowl team as an honor but not actually play a game.

im with you Amendial on watching the Pro Bowl, but i have to say the weeks coverage by the NFL network is wonderful. its all inclusive coverage and great interviews. its great tv for the week, but the game is lack luster.

agreed, the problem is don't they usually wait 2-3 weeks AFTER the Superbowl? people tend to be done with football by then also do we really need the bye week between the conf championships and the Superbowl? that's BS as well, I say do away with that, and put the Pro Bowl in the date the Superbowl is usually played, that way it's still well before Spring Training really kicks off and there's still interest

I think the bye week was added there for the sake of sanity. Otherwise the teams would have to leave from the game they just played to the site of the Super Bowl.

the bye week is FILLED with infor. for the fans, interviews, and preparation for the largest game in NORTH AMERICA! so i would be in favor of keeping the bye week, like to soak up as much football, before the season is over..

when Super Bowl 41 came, i really followed it...just due to the fact that my Colts were in it. and i remember that a lot of it was planning, not for the game..but with the players familes and what not. organizing their personal lives so that they could be prepared to deliver during the game...they all get a certain amount of tickets and the hounding that some get they needed the prep time to get it in order, then came the practice sessions and the media sessions...it was all overwhelming for some since it was their first SB.

I like the bye week. It does give the teams proper time to prepare, and I am also in favor of having the Pro bowl the week before the superbowl.

What about all the players who refuse to play because they have golf plans or whatever. Or the players who refuse to attend because they lost the Superbowl. I am in favor of giving it a shot even if the players that are in the Super Bowl do not play. That fact is something had to be done, it is either this or get rid of the game completely. The old way was not working at all.

It doesn't really matter who plays in the pro bowl. It will be ten times more interesting this way. You serve appetizers before the main course because after it's just more food.

Thats a good way to put it. Not saying the new way is going to work, but we do know the old was wasnt working. This is worth a shot to try.

Is it really unfair? They get one less day of rest on the front end so in order to even make it to the next week they have to win a game on one day less of rest.

Well considering the home teams already get a week of rest, yeah I would say so. The better question is have is why not do it my way. I mean seriously do we have to have one AFC game and one NFC game per day? Why not play both AFC games one day and then both NFC games on the other.

Im sure the one NFC and one AFC game per day is a TV thing. Not sure though. Id be fine with that. As for the home team already having a week off.... They won their division and had either the best or second best record in their conference, that is after all part of the reward for those achievements. If you mess with that the end of the season and teams still playing for positioning in the playoffs might be affected. Heck look this year it wasnt until the last week till we knew who had the second seed in the NFC.
