I'm not sure on my favorite, but I think I like Lex portrayed bald better than with hair.

I don't particularly have a favorite but since Gene Hackman has farts that are better actors than some of these guys I'm saying him.

From what I've seen I like the Smallville portrayal better than the others.

I have to go with Gene Hackman. I like him as an actor and I grew up with the Reeves Superman movies, so I have to choose him.

I grew up with the Christopher Reeve version, and he will always be Superman. But Gene Hackman, as great an actor as he is, just didn't fit as Lex Luthor. For all its faults, Smallville has nailed Lex Luthor, and Michael Rosenbaum is perfect. edit: however, this poll does ask for "favorite", and not "best, or most accurately portrayed"

What he said. I like the way Michael Rosenbaum portrayed Lex Luthor. I was sad when they killed him off in Smallville.

Yeah I haven't watched a hell of a lot of Smallville (mostly while I was putting a collection together for a friend on deployment) but he really pulled it together from what I've seen. That clip is a perfect example of it. He doesn't have all the cheese or over acting of the others (as much as I like Spacey and Hackman) and I really think he nailed the look.

I still watch it because I'm a huge Superman fan, but after season 7 it gets pretty awful. The loss of Rosenbaum really hurt the show.

Hackman is phenomenal in Hoosiers, but my favorite role of his is The Conversation. Such a great movie. Next is probably as the sheriff in Unforgiven, another favorite. Maybe partially because because he played 'diabolical genius' Lex Luthor, he was an early front runner for Hannibal Lecter. I don't know why it didn't work out, and I can certainly picture how he would have played the role, but I think Hopkins was probably the better choice. The gentlemanly air he brought to the part really helped underscore his evil.

I voted Hackman, but it was a hard choice.....Hackman and Michael Rosenbaum portrays Luthor differently, plus Michael Rosenbaum is doing a younger Lex......either way, both are great.

Have to go with Hackman on this. I saw the Reeves Superman movie in the theater. Hackman has more acting talent in his little finger than any of the others listed in the poll.

If I'm looking for a Commander to drive my country into World War Three Hackman is my man, If I'm looking for an insane power hungry capitalist manipulator Rosenbaum is the way to go.

I love Gene Hackman, but the truest to the nature of Lex Luthor is Rosenbaum. Luthor is one of the greatest comic villains of all time, because he's not simply evil and power hungry...he is insanely jealous of Superman and wants to be mankind's savior himself. Rosenbaum only got to play the younger version, but you could already tell what his aspirations were even in his twenties. Hackman just wanted Superman out of the way because his kooky real estate schemes.
