He's like the anti Belichick. Instead of saying stuff to the media in a robotic monotone, he says stuff to wind people up

What do you want the coach of the Jets to say about his team, sorry we suck we shouldnt be here? If I am a Jets fan, Jets player, or the Jets owner what Ryan said is what I want to here. Every team playing in the playoffs right now should think they are the favorites to win it all. The Jets might have a case too, they did beat Indy, and then destroyed Cincinnati. They are the hot team right now, look at the Giants of 2008 and the Steelers of 2006. The hot team can be hard to stop.

a HOT team??? seriously, both teams they beat, laid down...i guess some dont think as you do since they are not favored to beat Cincy...i however do believe they will beat Cincy, just due to their pass rush and how Palmer handles it.

but please the last two games were and are a joke...i copy/pasted the article just due to the fact that this coach basically thought they were done in the playoffs and then saw his mistake...he thanked the Colts for the win...he thanked them. then he says that they should be favored to win the SB...he says it, but i believe most take it as tongue in cheek kinda thing.

Well he "should" say something like "We think we have as good a chance as anybody. It's a new season come this weekend. Everyone's 0-0. The Bengals are a really good team and we're only thinking about this week. Take it one game at a time." yadda yadda yadda.

By the way, I hate those kind of answers, but I don't think Ryan is being more honest in this case. He's just tweaking the media.

It can not be both ways. Either the Colts threw the game, or the Jets won the game. If the Jets won the game, then congrats. If the Colts threw the game, then the Commish needs to get involved.

havent you heard that he is looking into it..on how to prevent teams from doing what the Colts did, and other...he is looking at options such as awarding draft picks and other...but if you watched the game, then you would have saw the Colts hand the game to the Jets. it made most everyone just sick to their stomach. sick

found this site that talks about the competition committee looking to review and maybe help prevent what the Colts did for the last 2 games of the season.

Yeah, I hate the Colts with a passion but even seeing them lose that game made me sick. It was obvious they are throwing the game. I do not mind teams sitting their stars all that much, but if you are going to sit your stars do it the whole game, or 3/4 of the game. Any time you sit a star after half time is kind of extreme. You let him play the first half and some of hte second half, might as well finish the game.

im not in this boat, but some have said that the decision was made because of the other scores around the league and how the Colts would be set up to play in the playoffs...if this is correct i find it criminal...and it should not have happened if true.

i also agree...that if you sit them then have them play a few series to keep them somewhat fresh, but not start the 3qtr. but in all honesty the bye week that they earned is when they should have rested...not during the reg. season unless it is injury related, and im not talking about a strained groin or hammy...

That acticle is pretty spot on. This isn't simply a matter of resting stars anymore, it is a matter of tanking the game. They have a great idea in the article. If a coach wants to rest a star come out and say "Hey he will be sitting after one possesion following half time at the latest." There can be no doubt if you make it public your intention to sit a star. Does saying that give you opponet an competitive edge greater than sitting your best player? No, it does not.

i like that idea rather then wanting to give draft picks or other incentive to keep the stars in. least that way you dont mess with the integrity of the game.

For me the only reason this is an issue is because of how it affects ticket buyers. That's it. People who watch the game for free on TV should just be happy their team has the luxury of resting their starters. Teams like the Texans and the Steelers who didn't want to be on the downside of a tiebreaker should have won more of their own games. Fans paying to see the games I have some sympathy for, but: 1. teams already charge full price for the preseason, and a regular season tilt with backups is at least as entertaining as that, 2. knowing the status of when the starters would play and not play would actually give the opponent more of a chance to win, because it could be turned to a slight advantage, and 3. I assume most of the tickets for the game are bought long before anybody knows whether the game will be meaningless or not, and you can't expect teams to offer a refund when the buyer knew that late season games had the potential to be meaningless.

To me this is much ado about nothing. The only thing coaches being forced to reveal the status of their starters would really change is the appearance of integrity. To go back to the Indy/Jet game, the argument is it LOOKED bad to pull Manning et al at that point and "hand" the Jets the game. But wouldn't it have been handing them the game even more by playing the backups the whole way, and letting them know they don;t have to prepare for Peyton?

The problem I have with the arguement that the Texans and Steelers should have won more games approach is this: Those teams won 9 out of 16 games. The Jets effectively won 7 out of 14 games because the last two were freebee's. (Atleast that seems to be the consences). So now what you are trying to say is that winning 56% of you games compared to 50% of your games not enough, you have to win 62% of your games while the Jets only have to win 50%. I like to be old school and take the approach that you should of won more games, but that is unfair to say when the teams that didn't make the playoffs, had to effectively play two more games than the Jets did. What you are saying is that the Steelers and Texans have to win more games because the Colts and Bengals want to lay down for the Jets. That kind of thing needs to stop, and taking away draft picks would make it stop real fast.

If you want to rest starters against teams not in the playoff race, then fine go ahead, that has no impact on the big picture. If I was commish I would take draft picks away from teams that lay down against playoff contenders.

I think we were pretty close to best friends back in 07/08 when the patriots were undefeated. We both wanted the jags to win that divisional playoff game against em, and our relationships been goin downhill ever since they blew it.

There is nothing wrong with difference of opinion. You should see my friends and I when we are hanging out talking football. We will argue for hours. I appreciate a good debate, and I respect people who form their own opinions on issues. As long as people can keep it all in good fun, and don't make it personal. I can say that all the people on this board are good at keeping it clean and fun. Jaguars have not been the same since that loss to the Patriots, I remain hopeful for the future though.

Interesting Colts-Jets game next weekend. If kharma is real, the Colts will lose that match up. That would make my season, the Colts lay down and let the Jets into the playoffs, and then turn around and lose to the Jets.

EDIT: My mistake, the Jets are the five seed, so if the six seed Ravens win tomorrow the Jets would play San Diego next week and not Indy.

Karma already bit the Bungles today. They tanked week 17 so they didn't have to face the Texans, and so they lost today. I hope the Pats win tomorrow. I want the Jets to come to Diego and get roflstomped by the Bolts.

I was actually going to do it on friday but I got busy and didn't have time too. Its a good thing I missed yesterday, I really thought the Cowboys were going to get blown out. I was 50/50 on the Jets-Bengals game, that was a hard one to pick.

If I get the time and remember too, I will do one for next week.

For today my picks would be Baltimore by 6, and Green Bay by 10.

New England is not the same New England of old, and without Welker to be their move the sticks guy, they could struggle on offense. Baltimore is pretty hot right now, they are running smooth in all phases. I see New England running into some trouble at home later today. The X factor as always will be Randy Moss, if he gets his catches and a couple deep bombs the game could go the Patriots way.

Green Bay is about as hot a team as you can find in the league. Hot teams are nearly impossible to stop. That was my mistake in underestimating Dallas last night. Green Bay should easily handle an injury depleted Arizona team. I also think homefield advantage is overrated now days. Last year I believe that two away teams won in the Wildcard round, and going back to '07 I believe three away teams won in the wildcard round.

im going with the Pats even though i would like to see them lose (see signature)...i really feel as long as you have Moss/Brady its game on, and since this is the Playoffs at foxboro...forget about it.

the Arizona/GB game im still on the fence, Boldin is questionable last i looked, he hopes to play...and i really believe this game is going to all about Warner and if he comes to play like he can. GB is one of those teams that could give the NFC a scare...but wouldnt it be nice to see the Vikes and GB hit it off one more time for the NFC Championship...talk about a ratings inferno!

even though GB gave away that game to start it off and it ended up biting them in the end

I still feel the need to whine about some of the lack of calls going on in that game

Jolly gets tackled into Warner, and during the same play Fitzgerald knocks Woodson over and is of course wide open there

well obviously the logical call there is roughing the passer!

and how about in OT there you had the one call which was obviously a holding, but how about Rodgers getting gd slammed helmet to helmet no call? WTF

I think the woodson thing was incidental contact. It would appear that Larry went to do a cut back to the inside and woodson happened to be moving in the exact opposite direction. I could be wrong, but that is the impression I got when I saw the play. The roughing the passer call was because of a blow to the head, ref probally didn't see that he got blocked into him, but not even sure if it makes a difference with a blow to the head. That was a very wierd play. Packers shot themselves in the foot at the begining of the game, but played hard and came back to tie it up. The better question is what was up with that Arizona field goal at the end of the game? That thing was one of the worst kicks I have seen in my life.

and that play towards the end of regulation when Finley was starting to get back up and the arizona player shoves him back down while 2 refs look right at it and do nothing? tongue

btw yes I do realize they shot themselves in the foot to start the game

I think the woodson thing was incidental contact. It would appear that Larry went to do a cut back to the inside and woodson happened to be moving in the exact opposite direction. I could be wrong, but that is the impression I got when I saw the play. The roughing the passer call was because of a blow to the head, ref probally didn't see that he got blocked into him, but not even sure if it makes a difference with a blow to the head. that was because Finley was shoving the Arizona player off of his legs (probably talking smack as well) prior to trying to get up =/

Honestly you have pointed out a few spots in the game where the refs missed a call or two, but if you look closely you can find spots in the game where the refs missed a call or two that would have gone against Green Bay. Alot of times missed calls tend to balance out in the game. A good example is a few years back a steelers fan going into an argument with me over the Jags-Steelers playoff game when the refs missed a holding call on the Jaguars on that critical 4th and two play. Not more than 3 mins earlier the Steelers got a touchdown because they called Pass interference on the Jaguars D back even though Hines ward was the one making contact and infact had a hold of the Jaguar players face mask. They might miss a call for your team, but chances are at some point they missed a call against your team. That is why I like the leave the refs out of the excuses, almost never are they a direct factor in a team losing the game.

While Rex Ryan is a dope for the most part you have to admit its ironic that 1 year in the league as a head coach he did something his father was never able to do: Win a Playoff Game. :o

Thank you to the Jets. For making New Yorkers hope for the unreasonable. I love it when New Yorkers have their hopes destroyed.

The Jets could be on a Steelers circa '05 run, but even then Ben was in his second year, and they were better than a 9 win team that backed their way into the playoffs. I just don't feel it for the Jets this year. Running the ball and good defense is the ticket to being a really good team, but the NFL is not moving more and more to a pass first league for nothing. Eventually they will run into a team that will score 21-28 points on them, and I don;t think they will be able to keep up. Turnovers are the great equalizer, and I guess they only need the breaks to go their way two more games, but I wouldn't put any amount of money on it.

best point of the thread! if its not the Colts this weekend, its going to be the Vikes/Saints...and all of those teams have the offense to test their D, its a great D...but not one to keep these teams from the endzone multiple times.

the Ravens beat the Patriots week one despite completing 4 passes total the whole game and scored 33 points a week earlier while only having 200some yards on offense

it's not entirely impossible, I think they can beat the Colts next weekend, however I also see either Minnesota or New Orleans entirely overwhelming them

do you remember the start that Manning had the year he had surgery? its the same start that Brady had as well, once he worked out the kinks they went on a run...just like the Colts did. i wouldnt put that much importance on wins in the beginning of the season...Brady had a good year, just that Belichek traded the "D" away...losing their pass rush hurt them in so many ways, imo.

oh...well, i guess i didnt research the Pats schedule either..so im at fault as well. that game was just lost from the first play...Rice's run, was just a small example of what they were going to face. Brady wasnt sharp and took his beatings all day. i do feel that the loss of Welker hurt, but it wouldnt have made much of a difference.

the Pats dynasty is over, Beli...needs to have a great draft and some top shelf workings with his current free agents..they need a pass rush! and a better running game, this crap of platooning 5 RB's is crap. i dont mind that they suck, hell...most can tell how i feel about the Pats via my sig. but would like to see them competitive so the Colts/Pats rivalry can continue.

Dont count the Patriots out yet. They have stock piled draft picks the past couple of years. Belli knows how to rebuild, they will not be down long. I look for them to win the AFC East again next season.
