~ Assess Creature items: Special lenses can be crafted that can be employed by characters skilled in Assess Creature. When equipped and used, these lenses will expose the weaknesses of the enemy, allowing you to do more damage. This debuff works like Imperil and allows characters with high Assess Creature to cast an Imperil like debuff on targets. Though this won't stack with Imperil, it allows weapon using characters with rending weapons to debuff a creature without needing magic. The highest Expose Weakness debuff is equal to Imperil 7.
Please tell me how exactly this works?

Think of it like arcane lore, but for a specific set of items.
the lenses require assess creature of X to use. Reminds me of the runed wands..

it allows weapon using characters with rending weapons to debuff a creature without needing magic. just need your goggles and rend weapons

No... the only way to gain advantage of the "new" assess critter vuln is by using a lens (gearcrafted item). Must have critter assess trained to wield it. The higher the skill, the better the lense you can use. Spec'd critter assess (6 skill credits) allows you to use the top end "lens" which is a casting item... no mana c bonus but all lenses have a +20 base melee d bonus (buffable).
The top end lens casts a weakness VII spell on the mob (doesn't work on life proof critters such as EO bugs). When this spell is cast on the critter it works as an imperil (surpassing imp VII).
The second from the top tier lens (200 base assess critter skill) casts weakness VI on the critter (basically imp VI).
The nice thing about the top end "Lens" (read self casting wand i.e. Healer's Heart or Runed Wand) is that the spellcraft of the wand is 520ish... In 2 hours of buffs last night my lens was only resisted about 10 times total on DI, and freebooter. Excellent option for a non life spec melee/archer.
