Has it hit your school/area?
We now have SEVERAL confirmed cases in ours here. I'm torn between "oh, dont over-react" and "omg you have a child with asthma, dont send her to school!"
I dont have much information, only a phone call and front page paper info, no one is releasing names (of course) or ages--which would be nice, only because I'd like to know how closely my children play with those who have caught it.
I honestly hope we (as a community) dont lose anyone, I cant help but be a bit worried over it.

Nothing here yet, but we've received reams of paper about contingency plans (aka how to cough/sneeze and wash your hands, over and over) and that they'd let everyone know IF they need to close schools. I'm still not particularly worried, also have yet to ask my paed. if she would give the kids the new vaccine or not...

My son attends public school, we're in Dallas (Richardson ISD). There's kids from his school out every day with it, however, nobody in his immediate class has yet to contract it. (The morning session has had four or five though.) I'm a little worried (since I'm eight weeks from spawn delivery), but every single case that I've seen that was fatal has involved a pre-existing condition that for the most part included something respiratory. It's not like I expect a vaccine to be available before it's born anyways - all the ones in DFW so far have gone to health care personnel.

My family doctor will not give the vaccine or recommend it to anyone because she doesn't feel it has been properly tested.
I'm not getting the vaccine and neither is my daughter.

12 kids quarantined it the college my son goes to (kids are in one of the dorms)
We are getting the shot for free where I work. We have the option of the nasal or the injectable. Taking the shot is optional also, but is offered for free. My doctor isn't doing the regular flu shots until a start date of 11-02-09. He recommends getting the H1N1 shot also.

I've read that in adults, the nasal isn't nearly as effective, so if you have a choice... don't go nasal.

We will all get the vaccine when it is available. My daughter's school just had their first confirmed H1N1 case. My co-worker's family thinks they have it since his wife was exposed to someone infected at the local college and now they all have the symptoms. Silver

Saw it on ACF, just more information for people out there: More vaccine stuff The more I've been doing my own research and reading up on things and seeing more and more different sources, I'm finding that I have been pigheaded in resisting even considering the vax... Also looking like I'm pretty lucky that I will be able to get my whole family vaccinated on the 28th if I so choose. I choose thee, possible side effects!

I just wish my kids would stop being snotty for a few days so I can get them all stabbed up... Hoping for this Monday/Tuesday. My Dad had a 3-hour wait when he went this week. Not looking forward to that part, but seems better than the alternative right now. Everyone around here is talking about that 13-year old hockey player that died last week. Just wham.

Some reading from our government. Likely nothing new in there and nothing about the vaccine controversy just basic common sense stuff. http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/alert-alerte/h1n1/fs-fr_h1n1-eng.php -- We're being as careful as always about washing our hands after being in public and wife has hand sanitizer at work. Here's hoping we avoid it because I'm in trouble if I get it, and I can't get the vaccination.

I'm amazingly aggravated. My OB office got their doses the day before yesterday (and yesterday was my weekly appointment). Awesome, right? No. All they have are the multi-dose vials which contain thimerosal. I understand that the government has supposedly dis-proven any risk between thimerosal and autism, Guillain-Barré, and all the other disorders/diseases that people have linked to thimerosal (mercury). I don't care, I'd rather not take the risk. (And since both the United States and the European Union have banned thimerosal from children's vaccines as of 1998? 2001? - that just further influences my desire to not take any unnecessary risks.) My doctor (who couldn't answer a single question about the vaccine that I had, didn't have a clue what thimerosal was, and pulled the 'but you don't want to die and leave your children without a mommy card) recommended the vaccine anyways - to which I said no. The only way (currently) to receive a H1N1 vaccine without thimerosal is to get your hands on a single dose syringe. I can't find one to save my life.

Same issue here, apparently... regarding the vaccine with/without adjuvant. Then I just read this: "Canada has purchased 1.8 million doses of inactivated H1N1 vaccine without adjuvant, but those will not be available until November." Either way they're keeping it only for pregnant wimminz, so it's not like I could choose to get that given to my kids. Sounds like 9/10 better than 6/10 for immune response and protection anyway.

If you have that many issues with your doctor, I'd suggest finding a new one.
The flu vaccine has always had thimerosal in it.
We get vaccinated next week.

they were treated with rest and tami-flu.

This is true; they try to forecast which strains of the flu virus will be prevalent in that year, and create the vaccine with them.
Sometimes they're right on the money, sometimes not so much.

I agree, then you start hearing about the people who didn't have any underlying conditions or immune weaknesses or other health issues, and some of them are dying. From the flu. I still can't believe that there was nothing else wrong with that 13-year old boy from Toronto. Was feeling better, fever gone, then an hour later he collapses and dies. They were unable to resuscitate him, though they tried, called paramedics immediately, etc. EDIT: 10% absentee rate right now at my MIL's school. I wonder how that stacks up with other Octobers in other years...

I live South of Boston near the Rhode Island border and I think there has been one confirmed case in the town next to mine. I am a swim instructor at the areas Y and I have noticed a drop off in attendence in the last couple of weeks.
On the plus side my daughter's pediatrician is doing an EXCELLENT job keeping people informed about what to do, when they are getting vaccine and how they are distributing it.
