Hi guys and gals, and welcome to the first "fest" of the photoboard!
So, what's this Octoberfest you're speaking of? does it have beer?
The Octoberfest is a photography challenge, where you are your own challanger! (there might be beer, it is optional!)
The basic premise is that you formulate a challenge for yourself, and along the way to fulfill the challenge you're helped by others commenting on your work along the way.
Rules!
1. The challenge (fest) lasts from: Oct. 1 to Oct. 31.
2. You can use whatever photographic equipment you have, as long as it takes stills (not video)
3. You have to define a personal challenge that you follow the entire month.
4. You can only use ONE picture per day. If you have two exceptional pics from one day, you have to choose one of them.
5. You enter the challenge by creating a thread for yourself by Oct. 1.
6. Keep the exif-info in the picture if possible, but feel free to also type the settings in the post as well.
7. At the end of the month, you choose your 3 best pics and add them to the gallery. The Gallery is a seperate post I'll put up at the end of the month.
Personal Challenge
You decide what the challenge should be, here are a few examples:
- Use only one lens.
- Macroshots only.
- Street Photography.
- Document my immediate area.
- Getting to know my new lens.
If you're lacking ideas, feel free to use this thread to ask for suggestions  Remember that the object of this exercise is to challenge yourself to learn something new and get more joy out of your hobby
Challenge level
You can decide for yourself how dedicated you want to be for your challenge. There are four levels:
Hardcore:
You only shoot pics related to your challenge, you turn in one picture per day, you do not shoot unrelated pics. You get 2 free cards.
Enthusiast:
You shoot pics mainly related to your challenge, you turn in one picture per day, you shoot unrelated pics if you feel like it. You get 4 free cards.
Candidate:
You're trying for Enthusiast, but there are days where you can't deliver pictures. Max one picture per day, but atleast 4 per week. You shoot other stuff if you feel like it.
Wuss:
You turn in 2-3 pictures per week, you shoot other stuff if you feel like it.
Your thread!
When you sign up for the challenge, you do it by making your own thread where you add your pictures each day (depending on level) Others are free (please do!) to comment on your pictures. see this as CC.
The title of your thread needs to be within the rules of this forum, and I STRONGLY recomend using this format:
Octoberfest 2009 - your nick - title of challenge
Example:
Octoberfest 2009 - Raiztlin - Using my 50mm only
In the first post of your picturethread you add your info by filling out the following fields:
User: Your username
Challenge: Your personal challenge.
Level:The level you will be participating at.
Equipment: The equipment you will be using throughout the challenge.
Additional Challenge: Only used if you're imposing any extra restrictions on yourself.
The pictures added should be no larger then 1280px on their longest side.
Freecards:
You can use your freecards to miss ONE day for each card. For the hardcore people you can use them to shoot unrelated stuff (for instance).
Other info:
Additional Challenges: if you want to, you can impose greater restrictions on yourself. examples of additional challenges include:
- Shoot B/W only.
- No cropping.
- No post processing.

On a diffrent note, don't take offence to the "wuss" level. It's only meant as a joke, and for parents etc I think this is the most ideal level.

I'm still working my challenge out. And due to my work schedule, I think I'm going to have to choose the Wuss level since I often go 3 or 4 day without taking any photos.

Yes, its a norwegificationated version of free pass. in Norwegian it is "Frikort" Fri meaning free and kort meaning card. In English it would be free pass, as I should have remembered

Surely you didn't!
If you choose candidate or wuss, you only have to deliver 2-4 images per week, and thus you have plenty of time to get started
