Does this still drop? I got mine years ago off of the mud-golem thingy's in Avalon Marsh, but those mobs got ramped up to about level 30 a while back and the Scepter is something like a level 10 / early teens item

Geez, just play a friar. They are so much more badass than any silly mage anyway.

I actually cancelled for the first time ever. Got every char to level 50 in the game, and a mauler on all 3 realms. Many duplicated, but the ‘announcement’ of 1 super cluster did it for me. I don’t like having triples and quads on the same cluster. I gave up on Warhammer, it’s the same crap over and over and scenarios’ never pop. I went back to WoW with my sister and am actually enjoying my time. I’m sad about DAOC, but think I’m done until origins. Sad… but done.

Never heard of it, but it was an interesting read. Guy acts like a jackass and people don't like him for it, then he's surprised? Anyway, i find there are some discrepancies with the article. No single class in that game can take on groups of people in PvP. It just doesn't work out well. Unlike other games, CoH keeps the gap between hardcore players and casual ones pretty small.

Can't remember what they are called, but there are bots by both Hero and Villain bases that pretty much one-hit any 'enemy' toon. They are there to prevent respawn camping and the such. It sounds like this guy was teleporting people in front of the bots and having the bots do the killing rather than doing any sort of PvP himself. That behavior has always been frowned on and is generally considered cheesy badness. So, no wonder that the community didn't like him if he constantly thumbed his nose at unwritten rule No.1.

How is that any different than what use to happen in or what currently happens in Lab? If a person is doing an encounter, the player is using the purple con mob to do a large part of the work, or at least act as a parnter in causing interrupts or a distraction, somehow that's acceptable in DAoC.

I really have no clue on how things work in DAoC these days and to be fair it is a while since I played CoX, but I think the scenario is like this.
Heros and Villains have bases on opposite sides of the map. Each base has guard bots that can more or less vaporize any 'enemy' it notices. There is a player skill that lets you teleport a hostile (mob or PC) from where they are standing to a location of the user's choice (within reason). If you are somewhere close to the enemy base (looking for a duel, say) an opposing player could (if specced that way) instantaneously teleport you to right in front of a guard bot and *Vooom* insta-jib. Not very sporting and, as I recall, the teleporting player gets no credit for a kill, meaning it is mostly a griefing tactic.
I'm trying to remember why players would often tend to be within teleporting distance of opposing faction bots and can't really recall. It might have been one or more of the badge rewards required you to be close to an enemy base, but I do know there was a lot of heat about the subject a while back on the CoX boards.
