He likes the park, and we took him to a little zoo not too long ago. Any other idea's? I kind of wanted to mix things up a bit. Tried to talk the BF into the aquarium but he said it will be too crowded today

At age 40 I'm still having fun with water. (And my 3-year old loves water guns right now.)

Was so happy when we found some squirty gun things that look like animals spitting instead of regular guns for the girls!!

I might suggest a pet shop or aquarium type museum. When I was little, I went to the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens and was completely fascinated by the gold fish they had. 13 is a little young though so if you go anywhere near water or outside you will really have to watch them. I would also try to go early or late in the day if going outside because of the heat.

Whoops. Just say the line about the aquarium there. Here, some other suggestions that could work: 1. Watch people go ice skating at the mall. Too young to skate but will still enjoy watching everyone else. 2. If have a backyard, get a moving sprinkler and turn it on a light speed and let him watch it go. 3. Consider looking for a parade in your area and fireworks. 4th of July weekend should offer plenty of possibilities. 4. Could consider going to the zoo even, but I would wait til he gets a bit older and its cooler outside. Hope these are a little more helpful.

seconded on the library. ours has a weekly storytime that you can register for, and best of all, it's free. I take my girls to the library on average once a week (well, especially since I'd go bankrupt otherwise trying to keep them in reading material! ). also, if you have the time, money and inclination, your local YMCA may have parent-tot "swimming" classes to introduce your child to the water. at this age, children don't have the same hangups about swimming and can learn much more easily than older kids, though at our Y the parent-tot class is more about aquatic fun than actually swimming. but if you're a member (and I wish we were) they also have family swim hours that you can take advantage of.

I definitely recommend the swimming. My wife took my boy from around that age and he really had fun. As a bonus it leads to swimming skills which is a good thing all on it's own.

Another good idea would be to consider a big toy store. Many times the larger ones have places for kids to play with toys and it is air conditioned. Tumbling classes are popular for kids nowadays too and I think they have some real young toddlers in some of these classes. Depending on where you live, both are viable options.
