He's on antibiotics for his ear infection. We are alternating tylenol and motrin. Luke Warm baths. He just isnt himself and I dont know what else to do for him. Docs say it take 48 hours for antibiotics to kick in.

Cool washcloths on his forehead. Plenty of fluids. Maybe popsicles/frozen juice type treats, if allowable. Can't think of anything else off the top of my head. Not a whole lot you can do to make em comfortable. If that fever doesn't come down though I would call the dr. again. Do they know it's that high? Seems awfully high.

Thanks, Doc knows, Nurse also knows. I keep calling them because I think 104.7 is high... they keep telling me its normal for ear infections. this is day 3 he's been running his fever day 2 on antibotics so if it doesnt stop by tomorrow im taking him in and demanding they figure something out... Edit: That sounded bitchy lol

Gav, my doctor calls anything 105 and below fine as long as the baby is over (four or six, but I think six) months old, especially if they know the cause of the fever.

It's been so long since I've had a small one with a fever, I couldn't remember. But to me, anything over 102 makes me nervous lol.

I've heard this as well. nothing wrong with being a pain in the ass to the doctors though. good luck

There are these cooling gel compress things you can buy at the store that stick to their foreheads. I forget what brand though. You can even cut them to size. Thing is that many little ones won't leave them on and peel them off. One option there is to cut one in half and wrap each around his ankles and put a onesie on him. My german gradma used to wrap my ankles in cold washcloths surrounded by dry towels and it really does work since so many blood vessels are close to the surface there. Same concept for wrists but those are a bit more bothersome.

Thanks guys He seems better right now but it was a rough night. we were dosing him with motrin and tylenol every other 3 hours (he was waking up every hour and his fever wouldnt stay below 103.something for longer than an hour). As of 11:00am no fever though! hopefully it stays away so tomorrow we can get some slee! i now remember what it can be like with a newborn and I appreciate the birth control refresher. going to pick up those cold compress things though just in case

Yeah I got really worried too when my little one had a fever of 40-41C for 2 days straight, between doses... Soon as I see red on the thermometer, I start considering calling the doc! I learned about the existence of Roseola, however. Interesting. Hope your wee one is feeling better real soon, and that the meds kick in sooner than later!!
