Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

Tried everything, still no decal bar in game

Since the DecalDev forum appears barren in recent months as a last resort I have decided to post an export and beg for some help. I have scoured every possible forum post here, decaldev, and turbine forums in an attempt to make that magical little Decal bar show up in-game for me to no avail.
I have Vista and apparently that's my problem since the decal bar works fine on my laptop with XP. I would appreciate it if someone might suggest a course of action for me to have the bar show up in-game.
What have I tried so far? Just about everything imaginable...
Right-click run as Administrator, compatibility mode, alternate injection mode, different variations of view options (multiple views, adjust for radar), clean installs of AC and Decal, cleaning registry, uninstalled AVGfree8.0, disabled windows defender, disabled windows firewall, decal with plug-ins and without, unregistering .dll's and reregistering them, I have dx10 installed since I play more recent games- but dx9.0c appears to be current, finally enabling hidden vista administrator account to try aforementioned. I don't use ACDC so don't bother bringing that up please. I changed Protected Storage Mode from "Manual" to "Automatic".
Probably spent well over 25 hours during the past week drudging through forums, google results, and trying fixes. If anyone has a novel suggestion I would sure love to try it. Here is my barebones export without compatibility-mode.

where it's installed has a big impact and
ms just released a vista service package/update that is supposed to fix those vista/security software issues.

Appreciate your suggestion, however, both AC and Decal are installed under a folder I made "c:\xpgames\" which is seperate from "c:\program files\". I'll look into the new update you mention, thanks.
Any other suggestions?

hey there, i had the same problem as you and tried all the things you said you have also. the thing that fixed my problem was installing Drakier's ACDualClient. http://acdualclient.drakier.com/ Don't ask me how, but something in the installation of that program made Decal work with my vista laptop. I have heard others that have had he same success. Even if you choose not to use the dual client software hopefully this might fix your problem.

not installed drakiers. but it could be installing the special graphics file that isn't typically installed with the normal Dx9 user files. that is why the decal site has a dl during the install of dx for the 'developer' file that is used.
there is one other thing in the back of my mind something about hardware accell off or zbuffering off. forget which ;(
other then that i'm totally fresh out of ideas (espeically since i don't ahve vista).

Tried using ACDC for a few hours with numerous variations on the options settings. No luck getting Decal Bar in game, was able to use ACDC though. I uninstalled it and Still no decal bar in game. I appreciate your suggestion, it led me to the acdc forums where I found some info about decal settings I hadn't seen before. I tried running Decal, ACDC, ACCLIENT, ACLAUNCHER, ACDCClient all with "win xp sp2" compatibility and "Run as Administrator" checked but no decal bar in game.
I would love to see some people with Vista post a screenshot of what their Decal options window looks like, and if they are using ACDC what boxes they have checked.

my decal settings on vista are all literally default. didn't change a thing. have you played around with "Process Performance Counters" ? I remember the ACDC installation asked me if i wanted to enable this, and i clicked yes. I THINK that is what may have gotten decal to work for me.

No I haven't done anything with Process Performance Counters yet. When I installed ACDC there was no mention about PPC, so I assumed it was working correctly. I did read about them in a thread on Drakier's ACDC forums, but seemed so complicated I wasn't going to try messing with it unless I had a problem with PPC. Which, I thought I didn't since there was no mention when I installed or ran ACDC, but maybe it's worth a shot. Thanks for the heads up.

Please post back if you come across a solution. I am exactly in the same boat as you, I have literally tried everything I could find in years old posts that seem to go no where regarding this issue. Still no decal bar in game with AC.

alright i have an idea, uninstall it, run a reg cleaner to get rid of the bad files, then restart, then try a clean install of this http://decal.dreagis.com/Decal.msi
update it, get your plugins, then it should work
