Boards Archive] |
Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

Virindi "Open Beta" Program
|
As some of you may know, lately I have been working on a plugin with networked functions. This plugin is currently called Virindi Integrator2 (it is a successor to a similar private plugin of mine that is in the process of being rewritten). Some of the goals of this plugin are: -Allow chat across different servers -Allow chat by 'account', regardless of which character you are logged on to (account meaning an account on the plugin system, not Turbine account) -Allow quest groups to join 'channels' which act like fellowships, but without the 9 player size limit, to facilitate healing -Allow players on different servers to see where channel members are standing -Pass health information to VTank so it can heal non-fellow members who are in your channel (not yet implemented) Due to the fact that this system connects to a central server, its use will require running a special filter which keeps the plugin up to date with the latest copy at all times. In addition to Integrator2, I have also been working on a few other things, one of which is a custom windowing system with themes. What I'd like to do now is give people a chance to try these things out. Keep in mind if you do, though, that these are in-development programs, and are not complete. However, there should be enough features implemented now for you to play with. I will be distributing these beta plugins as a bundle; I have created an installer which automatically fetches the latest versions of everything in the bundle and installs them. So, if you're interested, here's the installer: http://www.virindi.net/plugins/updates/VirindiInstaller1000.zip Close all copies of AC before running the installer. When you run it and click through the install, it will pop up a bunch of messages about what is being installed. When it is done, it will say "Done."...you can then close the installer and start AC. Some of the Virindi Integrator2 commands are: /vij channelname: Join a channel /vip channelname: Leave a channel /vim channelname message: Send a message to a channel /vit accountname, message: Send a message to an account /rt: Retell, if the last message you sent was on VI2 /vifriendsadd accountname: Add a friend /vifriendsremove accountname: Remove a friend /vicurgroups: List the channels you are in To take advantage of the tells and friends features, you are going to need to sign up for an account on my site. Click the "Create Account" button on the VI2 main window to do this. Finally, here's a screenshot of what you get to tempt you http://www.virindi.net/junk/bundle.jpg As always, comments are appreciated.

sounds like a great product VI from a technical/programming point of view.
but i don't know anyone on other servers and not sure i want to bother with the 'noise' factor. probably take too long to find out who to squelch and whom to listen too for sage advice, ect.
and the one or two that i know from TD for when/if he is playing on FF or DT, it might be distracting for him/me to have the other bugging each other about information.
BUT for the more then 9 in fellow type comms, there is where it may turn into a winner. especially for those big quests.

It's not just people on other servers...the friends feature allows you to see your friends no matter what character they happen to be playing. Handy for those people with 10000 rerolls Plus I plan to add other things, as soon as I think of some good ones!

There is a version of reporter that uses the windowing system, if that's what you mean. I could include it.

Yep, plugins in the bundle are updated automatically by the auto updates filter which is installed by the bundle installer.

Yes, I am on Vista 64 bit. I just installed it on my laptop with no problems at all. Both my computers are admins. The only difference between my desktop and laptop is that my desktop is 64 bit and my desktop isn't.

The only Virindi items that are shown in Decal are ChatBugFix, Follower, and Tank, because I downloaded the individual setup files for those.

POSTED this in the wrong thread
V-I something went really bad tonight, then i leaped into the handbasket and then went at post-warp speeds to h...
logged in and was attempting to change profile from DI to col. which is way up the list of profiles, clicked to scroll up arrow and message box closed. tried this several times couldn't scroll up or down and attempting to do so only closed the whole VT window box.
being totally peeved and in a rush brought up add/remove programs to remove the new stuff and only item listed was Vtank none of that new stuff. so i looked at the sub directories for a remove and didn't see one (wasn't there or i MISSSED it) for the stuff added by the beta test msi. so i nuc'ed the sub folders and nuc'ed all but v-t's registery keys.
started up ac tried to log in and kept failing, acclient was failing for some reason (post stress process maybe a reboot at that point may have helped). shut down decal and could get in. i then removed decal and every plugin, reinstalled going back to VT 3.0.23 and not the prerelease 3.0.25.
so back to vt 23 and all seems to be working again.
AND, when i registered on the website during the install there was some comment about xxx messages in yyy folders but the topic index listed nothing in the way of messages/threads/folders.
thus i had no clue as to where to dump the above info except here.
WHICH the here was the wrong thread, Vt .023
so is there an un-install in the new stuff? and what was that issue with the menu/scroll or was that just some glitch of the comptuer running last 2 days and needed a reboot clear a lot of junk out?

Digero posted: Nice. Is the map dynamically generated?
Yes. It still has some issues, though...for one, everything is drawn at once. Ideally I want a way to turn off dungeon levels. Also, the assignment of dungeon templates to images for the map is manual, so I don't have every one set yet. Also, right now, objects (portals, etc) are all just thrown on top rather than having any idea of Z. Agnari posted: so is there an un-install in the new stuff? and what was that issue with the menu/scroll or was that just some glitch of the comptuer running last 2 days and needed a reboot clear a lot of junk out?
There is no proper uninstaller, however, you can uninstall by deleting the files from where you installed them (program files\virindiplugins or games\virindiplugins by default, depending on if you are running vista), then click each one in Decal and click remove. The thing you are talking about is a known problem, the scrollbar in comboboxes is broken at the moment. BUT, you can scroll with the mouse wheel. -Secutor- posted: noticed an issue that it will not let me save new profile names.
Updated VTank on the system to fix that last night, should work now. Let it update and give it a try.

i was, BUT i posted to the wrong thread and for a few days the posting went unnoticed.
the phrase KNOWN was misleading at first. I'd not heard of it and was questioning where i could find out about it or other known issues so i don't bring up/rehash known issues. As mentioned that forum for the beta that i saw ONCE during the registration, listed messages posted but the index option listed NOTHING posted.
SO i had nowhere to go check verify was a 'known' problem. Also i can't seem to find, get back to that forum. Was it reachable by/thru the beta software while IG or it is so hidden we get there once (registration) and never again?

Is there any way you can disable the map being turned on automatically once you sign into integrator or something, because when I sign into integrator and the map icon appears my FPS drops from 300ish to 60. That is without having the map window open. I love integrator but the map is killing my FPS, so it's pretty hard to log on more than one account with the map on.

I'll look at the map being a framerate hog tonight. If I can't make it a lot better I'll make it so you can turn it off. Edit: For a quick fix I am going to make the map only draw when it is not minimized. That should help you until I can make it draw faster. In the meantime, here's a look at what I've been working on today, coming soon in an update near you: http://www.virindi.net/junk/pack1.png -Closeable windows -Resizeable windows (currently browser, map and conversation) -Listing in the channel window of where your allies are (eg, "Eastham") -"Bar" moved down a bit so the Decal bar doesn't cover it up by default agnari posted: SO i had nowhere to go check verify was a 'known' problem
Send me a PM if you have issues Edit: Update posted.

OK, what i didn't wnat was to 'bother you' if there were/was a place i could see yokelxyz had reported issue 2. i wouldn't have to send you the 15th email on issue 2.
but i love that 'you've got mail' feeling hoping one of these days it will be from meg ryan (just joking, I will never have anything to do with America OFF Line).

New addition to the bundle tonight: the ability to change the color and displayed window for chatbox text, for both normal AC messages and messages from selected plugins. This feature is handled by a new plugin in the bundle called VCS5. If you already are running the bundle, simply rerun the installer to get it. Currently VI2 and AC messages are handled by VCS5, but an update to the bundle version of VTank to make it play nicely will be coming shortly. http://www.virindi.net/junk/vcs5_1.png

Integrator has not always been auto connecting when I log on.. so I open the window, click disconnect, and once I click connect I get an error sometimes. http://shhpaz.googlepages.com/Error.jpg That error just keeps popping up and I have to ctrl+alt+del and close AC that way to get it to go away.

Okay, well I did an update to the 'login' system in the client just now so we'll see if that fixes your problem...I did fix something that might have caused that. As for people being logged in but not, the way it should work is if your client crashes you can stay logged in for awhile until you time out. However, it's possible that may not be working correctly after I changed some things. I will look at it. Either way though, if you try to login again as the same char it will kick the old connection.

Hey Virindi, nice work! I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction in terms of learning how you did the map generation of dungeons? I understand that the portal.dat has a lot of info on the dungeons and such. I would appreciate any reference you can provide. Also, I think some of the geekier peeps would be interested in how you went about implementing some your cool tools like mapping, the new windowing interface etc... Any chance you could open source some of the mature code? Thanks, FH

For basic information about cell.dat, check out this page: http://www.ugcs.caltech.edu/~dsimpson/ There is some source there...it may not be updated for ToD, but the ToD cell format is very close to the old one. As for open source, I don't plan on doing that anytime soon. However, when the interfaces for Virindi Views are completed, I will release a toolkit that will allow any plugin developer to make their decal windows appear as Virindi Views. You could even use them now, but they change a lot As for the how, as of today Virindi Views manipulate DirectX manually by implementing the IDecalRender service interface. Services which implement that interface are given access to the game's Direct3D9 object. Previously, they were implemented in Decal Huds. Speaking of updates, today's update brings a few improvements: -The map now rotates to match the direction you are facing -Window stacking works properly. Clicking a window that is behind another brings it to the front. http://www.virindi.net/junk/dxviews5.png

Can 'Virindi View' be run as it's own plug-in? I would love to have just that map portion loaded.

Mapping is builtin to VI2. Data for maps, objects on them, and place names is stored on the server.

Depends on your definition of 'eat', I suppose. An update has just been posted. This version fixes a couple view system bugs and adds the beginnings of support for a new route system to come. Currently the route integration only displays your current VTank route, but in the future there will be a route library. Preview: http://www.virindi.net/junk/vtankroute2.jpg As with any time the View System is updated, to get the update close AC completely and rerun the original bundle installer.

selfish request I know, but when is the looting going to be fully implemented? And when it is, will there be options such as: loot on values above #### burden to value ratios thanks for the plugin.... the autonav works smoothly and doesn't put in annoying pauses in the route, although in some areas that might not be a bad option... ie put pause into route... possibly auto door opener? LOVE IT!

What is this? 11:13:57 [VTank] Abandoned attempting to loot corpse. Unable to recieve ID for all items. 11:13:57 [VTank] Abandoned attempting to loot corpse. Unable to recieve ID for all items. I have it set to loot two salvages, which it does successfully, but sometimes I've been getting those messages. ^^

The browser is a little slow for doing things like watching videos. The primary purpose is to make it easier to sign up for an account. It opens when you click create account.

ohoh when I pressed create account it launched a window outside of ac the default broswer.. I didn't see the ingame browser.. it would be a Great idea to make plugin for a broswer standalone and incorporate it into your bundle it would be great to get quick links from inside ac.. have it stay open to the same page when plugin is hidden. It would be great to see it done.
