Early sign of Dyslexia or just normal kid behavior?

Okay, my oldest when spelling things will spell em backwards. She wrote God (we're not religious) on a paper and told my wife, "look, I wrote Dog." It's things like that with her spelling but it is also her numbers. She is fine up until twenty. At 21 she starts back at 12. And is she sees a set of two numbers, say 72, she will tell us, "Look, two seven". I don't know if this is normal or not, just looking for some responses.

I did the same thing growing up but I was never diagnosed with dyslexia. I do, however, still have an issue with swapping number orders when I write. I would have an expert take a look, because there might be exercises you can do with her to help curb any potential future problems.

I noticed that with my son when he was about six or seven. He would write 'd' instead of 'b' and certain other letters would be the wrong way round. He really struggled with reading also. I mentioned it to his teachers but it wasn't until he was around 10 and was being disruptive in class that we got him tested. Turned out he was in fact dsylexic. After an eye test he was given tinted glasses to use and these actually helped enormously. We also discovered that he couldn't see the colour red, which was a real problem in school as they use whiteboards and the teachers frequently write in red. If he continues I would recommend getting it checked out. It can't do any harm and the earlier it's known the happier he will be as the school can adjust to it. My son has a 'helper' at school to scribe things for him and he is a much happier child.

I always got b and d mixed up. My teacher taught me how to remember which was which by spelling the word bed. The b is the footboard and the d is the headboard. That's the only way I could keep them straight when I was little.

Littleman does this...i cant say i am real concerned right now, he is not even 3 right now. i kinda think that he is just learning and he doesnt realize that the "proper" way to read letters is from left to right. i have made it a point to trace my finger along when reading words or stories and sooner or later i would think he will pick up the habit himself.
if you think it has gone on to long ask your doc next time you have an appointment, but if memory serves correctly, your oldest is still pretty darn young.

I don't think I ever did any funny word things but numbers still throw me for a loop.

My daughter did that a lot when she was younger. Now that she's 6 she doesn't have a problem with letters. She will get numbers out of order sometimes but I think it's because she's going too fast. Up until this year she also said numbers as seven-two or five-three instead of seventy two or fifty three. I think it's a case of they just haven't figured it all out yet.
If you are concerned you can usually have kids tested for free by the local Parents as Teachers program if you have one in your area. It's a test to see if they are developing normally, not for any specific disability. I found it very useful and the teacher was great about saying what is and isn't typical for kids that age.

I've never looked into this with any great depth but my limited understanding is that males experience dyslexia more than females. Also, you have to realize that her brain is quite literally developing. Much of our childhood emotions are a by product of physiological development not to mention the rest of our cognitive processes. So should you keep a eye on it? Yes. But don't stress out and think that anything is written in stone. Humans develop for quite some time after childhood. We're adaptive, resilient and wired to succeed on some fundamental levels. Try not to fret.
