Boards Archive] |
Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

totally pissed at our pediatrician... on the 8th we got a prescription for Evan's ear infections (both ears)... instructions were 1 tsp 2x a day for 10 days. well there was only enough in the bottle to give it to him for <7 days.. I brought this up with the doctor on his 7 day after check up... and she assured me it would be fine that pharmacys sometimes dont give enough antibiotics to do the whole 10 day course if they have to open a new bottle and that his ears were better and he didnt need it anymore... etc... the past 3 days he's been cranky and Last night the kid wouldnt sleep and he has scratches on his head where he's been trying to pull his ears. I called the doctor today with a big WTF?? and they said she could see him today but I have to come up with $50 extra on top of the copay because it is "after hours"... it has to be payed up front before they will see him and wow it does sound like his ear infections came back he does need a refill but sorry we can't give you a refill without seeing him, no we can't call in the refill so you can start giving him the medicine before his appointment on monday. So... I gave him some bendryl to help dry him out with the motrin for his poor ears and he's sleeping while I'm trying to figure out how i'm going to pay for the stupid doctor to see him, because if he is in pain i will take him in, but they want the $70 up front before they will even consider looking at him (normally our copay is $20) which really i don't think I should have to spend an extra $100 ($20 new prescription) that we don't have because my doctor messed up and didn't want to take the time to write a script for the last few days of his antibiotics he would have been done with his antibiotics completely by the 19th and hopefully would have been better.. On top of that the antibiotics make his stomach upset so he pukes about an hour after i give it to him... not looking forwad to 10+ more days of that it took a lot of restraint not to yell at the poor nurse who answered the phone...

What a lot of people don't realize is you hired this doctor to care for your child. You can also fire this doctor if you are unhappy with the service you pay him for. He is basically your employee. My advice is call them back, tell them because of his error in judgment, in not seeing that your child was given the correct amount of medication even when you voiced your concerns at his 7-day post check-up, you will not pay the extra fees and your child will be seen. This is their fault, not yours, that Little Guy feels bad. Another piece of advice.....ask for a copy to be made of each and every prescription they give him. (They can give you a voided copy.) If you were given only 7 days supply of medication for him and his script called for a 10 day supply, your insurance company is billed for what was on the script. The pharmacy and the doctor both may be committing fraud. At the least, in this case, the pharmacy is. They were paid by you and your insurance for 10 days, gave 7 days, and profited 3 days of that medication. I hope he feels better soon, hun.

Find a new pediatrician. I wish you lived where I used to down there, I'd direct you to our pediatrician. He was the absolute best ever!
Good luck

Sick the insurance comapny on him. I frankly hate a lot of the things insurance ahs done to medical care but there are occasions when it can be super helpful.
And yes, this is cut and dired the doctor's fault. Don't roll over and take it.
My father is a physician. I was raised that a doctor needs to take responsiblity for his actions and decisions. That anyone, not just a doctor needs to in fact.
Healthcare seesm to be turning into a business rather than a profession.
Good luck finding a good doctor to take care of your family and hope all is well with your little boy.

I have NEVER heard a doctor say "it's ok if they don't take the full course of meds if they're feeling better". ANY doctor worth his/her salt knows that just because you're feeling better doesn't mean the infection is whipped...that's why they prescribe a certain amount of time to take your meds! And we're always being told "DON'T stop taking your meds when you start to feel better, FINISH the full course or you won't be getting the proper treatment" etc. I would be livid at the doctor as well. You need to get on their case as well as the pharmacy, raise a big stink, heck I might even write to the local paper. There is no reason for them to pull something like that. Also, they'd be FIRED by me, just like Darshawn said.

Not taking a full run of antibiotics is a MAJOR reason why we have the 'superbugs' that we do now. You need to get a new Dr, and call your insurance provider and tell them they're being defrauded.

this, this, this. I don't blame you for being pissed off, wtf are they playing at anyway? so they have to open another bottle, you paid for ten days of meds, they can open the effing bottle, are they really not expecting to mix some more for some other kid later in the day? wtf.

yea... I am already looking fo a new doctor. I still can't believe this. we just switched to her because his original doctor refused to do an allergy panel on himh after he went into anaphylactic shock after I gave him soy/milk based formula and told me i should just give him different formulas.... aparently thats the "best" way to check if it is milk or soy (or both) that'll kill my kid.. oh well... anyone know of a pediatrician in OC that's not a moron?
