My husband and I just found out we are having a boy. Yay! We have a couple names we both like a lot but I'm scared to commit to a name. Seems like a bigger decision than actually having the baby lol. How long did it take you guys to pick and was it hard to agree on a name? Cause I find it odd that we both agree 100% on the same names.

I have a while yet to pick, 4 more months hehe.

The girls were harder to pick then our son. We had 4 sets of grandparents due to divorce and remarriage. Every *grandfather* was named "William" so that was pretty much a given. happy Heather was named about a month before her birth and Shannan was named the day after hers.

I spent the whole 9 months debating names with my ex. We settled on a name hours after I gave birth though. I originally just wanted to name her Noelle, but he liked Alina too. I put one and two together and we got Alina Noelle. happy

Hubby and I had agreed upon names before we were even pregnant <lol>. The only thing I did was add Aage as a second middle name.

A couple days. There was no agreement needed because I claimed the right to name him. (In return I let her make every other decision she wants to make without any arguments.)

It wasn't that extreme, but I picked the names and if she didn't like them I would have probably stuck to my guns on that one. As far as other decisions go I give my input but usually my wife gets her way. She hasn't made any I disagree with enough for me to fight. I pick my battles carefully because as most married men know, winning is still losing. tongue

It took us a while. We debated on a Biblical name or a name from Asheron's Call, the game we met in. We finally decided on Rachel. Originally her middle name was going to be Louise after my grandmother who passed away years ago. But, later we decided to name her after her only living greatgrandmother, Virginia. So, Rachel Virginia stuck.

I'm glad she wasn't a boy. We never did agree on a boy's name.

No matter whether it was a girl or boy, the middle name would be Ray (Rae for a girl) in honor of my husband's favorite uncle. We thought Aime (an old song by Pure Prairie League) went well with Rae for a girl. I don't remember if we ever settled on a boy's name.

With my first daughter my ex and I came up with it fairly easy, First he wanted to name her Tara Elaine, but I wasnt so keen on it lol, we were on the phone and talking about our troubles and I said "all we can do is have a little faith it will work out for us" Well, it didnt, but our daughter's name did. Faith Marie

Second girl, my husband couldnt decide what names he liked at all, He was TERRIBLE. We had picked a boys name just in case, so that was easy. But he just couldnt wrap his head around the fact that the dr said "it looks like a girl" lol. So we had several names in mind when she was born. He was holding her when he said "I think Allison Rose suits her best" and it still does to this day.

We had some time in between children to pick the 3rd baby's name. We knew it would be our last, and, again, the dr said "looks like a girl!" LOL. We had settled on Rhyleigh, but didnt have a middle name picked out. We were sitting around a campfire one night, he said "since it's our last baby, I think she should have a bit of her mama in her name" So she got my middle name. Thus, we have Rhyleigh Kay happy

It took a while happy The girl's name (Leah Alexandra)we had picked out was no problem...but of course we never had a daughter. My former husband wanted the name for our first born son to be Jon Trevor and he wanted to call him that...both names. It just reminded me of a preppified lil boy and I suggested Trevor Gage and there was NO way he would agree to that happy We were able to agree on Trevor and after he was born I asked that his middle name be his Godfather's(which was Daniel) since my then husband would not let me use either of his names when naming our son.

Our second son we agreed on the name from the get-go happy

It can be a real challenge to agree on names happy so if a compromise/agreement can be reached...all the better! Truly...

I had let him pick our sons name but i wanted the option of declining a name i didnt like. when we got pregnant the second time we actually did find out we were having a girl and our son kinda picked her name for us. he couldnt say Guinevere but he said Guinny Bear...and from then on until now we call her Guinny Bear tongue

i kinda am of the opinion that the guy should be able to carry on a family name if he wants so hubby had that option.

Gerriik Lyle-- Gary and Eric were two friends of hubby's growing up. one had already passed, combinded the names to get Gerriik. Lyle was 5th generation middle name.

Guinevere Emily-- already said how that came along. Emily is after her aunt who is a great person.

edit: but i would say 4-6 months to choose either name. we went thru a number of names.

My ex's family has a tradition of naming the next baby after the last member of the family that died, but they only use the first letter of the person's name. We already knew it was a girl and the last person who had died was the ex's grandfather, Sidney. I wanted to name her Sydney, but he didn't like that much, so we settled on Sara. She got my mother's middle name, Ann, so she's Sara Ann.

It only took one 2.5 hour ride from his Atlanta to Augusta to pick out her name.

in my husband's family (they are Ashkenazi Jews) it is the tradition to name children in honor of deceased loved ones.

with our first daughter, we were pretty set on her name early on, we definitely intended to name her in honor of his grandfather and we were very happy with our choice of name from the start.

with our second daughter, we couldn't agree up until she was born and to be honest, it wasn't my first choice of name. we named her in honor of my grandfather and just could not agree on a name starting with "J" -- the names I liked, he didn't like, and vice versa. if I had to do it again I'd have tried harder for a different name but her name has grown on us and seems to suit her, so I guess that's ok.

Naming the children after the deceased like that must be a common Jewish thing, then, because the ex's family was Jewish.

yeah, I think it is. I've heard the Ashkenazim name children after the deceased (and in fact my husband didn't want to divulge our baby's intended name just in case someone else died in the meantime) and the Sephardim name children after living loved ones.

So we committed to a name. We are going with Brokk Gaerret.

Brokk is a character from Norse Mythology and Gaerret was my husband's name in game when we me. If you go to my website in my sig there is a detail explanation and story behind the names.

Thanks to all for your feedback. Was very interesting to read.

With my most recent baby, we had 2 girls' names picked out: Hayden and Kennedy. Well, she was born and we both agreed that she didn't look like a Hayden or a Kennedy so we didn't name her until late that evening. It ended up being a name that hadn't come up at all whenever we discussed names.

Your child is going to hate having to correct the misspelling of his intentionally misspelled name for the rest of his life. You might want to rethink that.

No offense intended. This is just based on personal experience.

Gaerret is the middle name so i'm not concerned. Brokk is how it's spelled in Norse Mythology and that's how we want it.

Damned if you do and damned if you dont. My name is Tanya and i get called Tonya all the time. There is always gonna be something "wrong" with a name. My husband is coming from a family of 4+ Toms that are still alive. I rather have a name that isnt common.

I have a fairly common name and people misspell it all the time and try to call me shortened versions of it. We named our daughter Aime because we liked how it looked rather than Amy. If people are too stupid to pay attention and spell a name properly, it's neither my fault nor hers. I personally don't let it bother me and I only correct them if they're misspelling my name on a legal document.

One of my given names is Laurencia wink and you do not hear that every day. The names you have chosen Tuneses are important to you and will not cause your child any distress that they will not be able to handle (mainly because he will have 2 very supportive parents) happy

My oldest niece is named Jessica and people were always trying to give her nicknames like Jess and Jessie and from a very early age she 'corrected' people concerning her name.

Children are resilient and as long as you are not naming your child something like Adolf Hitler or Hashish...they should do great wink Truly...
