Help with Vista/DirectX/Decal?

When I'm going to install Decal on this new computer, it prompts me to install DirectX 9.0c.
This computer has Windows Vista and DirectX 10.
Is it alright to install 9.0c over 10? I'm not going to screw anything up, am I?

Well, I got sick of getting no answers on every attempt to figure this out, so I just tried to install it...
And it didn't work. I ran into an error.

Yup same thing, it has to do with not having directx9...
hopefully one of the decal devs can shed some light for us

I have it running on Vista x64, but the Decal installer gave me problems too. It tried to install DirectX 9 components, which gave an error. One of the devs posted a 'pure' Decal installer (I believe on the acdev.com boards?) which does not contain the DirectX stuff. I used that one, worked for me. Apparently I already had the DirectX components installed.

Is there anyway for me to run decal without downgrading to directx9? I'd like to keep DirectX10 to avoid any type of conflicts with Vista

Well, installation of these components is not a downgrade, it'll install next to DX 10. In other words, your DX10-only software will still work. Afaik it's impossible to downgrade DX 10 to DX 9.

Buh, what an ordeal.
Thanks for the help guys.
I downloaded the core file, but I'm still having lots of weird problems... When I go to update decal, I'll get through 4 of th 5 steps, but once I get to the fifth, it will say, "The file is in use elsewhere. Please shut down programs and try again.", and then it will say "Decal has been updated." 
Anyways, I tried running AC with Decal, and I ran into this error...
"This application has failed to start because d3dx9_30.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." This may be due to the fact that I can't update Decal for some reason.
I'm assuming that this has something to do with Direct X 9.0 not being on my machine... So, again, I tried to install Direct X 9.0c Run-time environments, and ran into multiple other errors.

I've tried turning off the firewall and everything, still a no go.
