Subject: Anyone know how to extract the Heightmaps from Cell.dat?
Hello, Im wanting to do some terragen work and it seems all the older links for the heightmaps and texturemaps that people used are no longer working, Does anyone know how to extract these files or know of a place that I can still download them? All help is appericated.

Ganzor's site with the maps you are looking for not longer exists. Ganzor still visits the Vault network. Your best best is to contact Ganzor directly:

Its a self extracting 7zip archive. It has the nine original heightmap/texture/terragen terrain files. I also included a heightmap and texture from Febuary's patch. I don't have the new island downloaded so I couldn't make a heightmap including it

Do you want to generate a height map pre or post ToD? If you have a ToD client_cell_1.dat file, you can generate both texture and height maps with Dereth Explorer (link in sig). It makes them 2048 x 2048 pixels, but you can remove pixels from the right and bottom to convert the map back to 2041 x 2041 if needed.

You have no idea how thankful I am for your help, ive been trying to get these files for over 3 months now. i want to do some terragen work and possibly import the heightmaps into the Farcry engine, or any 3d engine for that matter and kind of relive the good days of AC through new gen graphics, but that could take a while.

with that said, do you think it would be possible to port the height maps into a 3d engine like thouse? They do support height maps.

Ah, glad you found what you were looking for.

the heightmap should work with any program that will take heightfields. You might need to convert them to different color depths, but that is fairly simple.
