Almost all plugins come with installers that will add it into decal for you. What plugin are you trying to install? What are you doing to add it? What is the error message when you try to add it?

In general the procedure is: Open DenAgent, Click Add, click Browse, select the plugin's DLL.

The actual plugin name would help;

and as Digero said "In general the procedure is: Open DenAgent, Click Add, click Browse, select the plugin's DLL."

You might want to save yourself a lot of time and trouble and just send your password out to everybody on ACVault and reformat your drive.

You keep installing plugins like that, sooner or later you'll end up doing that anyway...

cause if 'your friend' sent you a plugin WHY not ask him for assistance instead of coming here especially if it was 'his' plugin (as in he possibly wrote it), so what they were saying is you're pretty NOT smart and will eventually get hacked the way you are going.

There have been 100's of Decal plugins written to steal people's accounts. Often times the author of such a thievery plugin sends it to one their friends. Of course the 'friend' is not a friend anymore after such trickery.

Over the years, I've read entirely too many posts where someone lost their account to a so called friend this way.

_HardSide_: I don't think anyone was attacking your intelligence.. I think they were trying to figure out why you were attempting to install a plugin from a "friend" and when it didn't work, why you came here to ask about it rather than go to the "friend" to ask.

If the plugin is a large plugin, then it would be more supported, and chances are, it would have it's own installer that worked properly, and there'd be no issues installing it... since this "friend" is the developer, and it came with no installer, that raises some red flags for a lot of people.. especially on these boards.

no one except you and your friend know the exact situation, so I can only speculate (as can others), but generally if plugins don't install through the normal "browse" functionality of Decal, then it leaves a lot to the imagination as to why it isn't installing correctly... especially considering the source of the plugin was "a friend".

Well if that's not attacking intelligence...

Anyways, Drakier explained it well. A plugin as the same privileges as any other program on your computer, and can delete, snoop, and send whatever it wants back to the author. Be very sure you trust the source before installing it. I'm pretty sure that a malicious plugin can do its damage just by you attempting to add it to Decal, but I may be wrong about that. In any case, it certainly can do whatever it wants once you install it and log in AC.

You can add code to a DLL that will execute upon COM registration, yes. Unfortunately, MS decided that the best way to implement COM registration was to instantiate the DLL and have the component handle it's own registration. This was before MS found its new focus on security, so it's no big surprise -- this is one of the reasons IE components (spyware) can take over your computer so easily.
