Subject: Questions on my mind..... perhaps its just me?
The masses of players are not using decal as once was only a few in my monarchy have gotten it up and running.
I wodner whats happening....

Did turbine wanting this to happen?
Could they give more help to Decal Devs?
What haappend to the API thingy they were going to build into the game?
Are the Decal Devs happy with the state their project is in?
Why do I feel as if nothing is moving forward?
Am I going crazy?

Oh well back to work.

I highly doubt it, but with major changes, it's very hard to avoid.

Consider how long it took the ORIGINAL Decal to appear in AC. That was very simplistic compared to what we're doing with it now. It's understandable that it would be harder and take longer.

Could they give more help to Decal Devs?

doubt it. It would be a little un-businesslike for them to do so. The only help we could use is in rewriting the rendering code. They can't exactly write code for us. The parts of the client and message reversing (which is all that Turbine could POSSIBLY help us with) is already done. We don't need their assistance for that.

What haappend to the API thingy they were going to build into the game?

That got delayed due to many varying factors. Mainly because they were on a timeframe and the API didn't fit into their schedule. Getting a working game was their highest priority, and you can see how long THAT took. I highly doubt they had time to add in an API as well. (not to meantion they don't know what we'd need for memlocs now with all the changes)

Are the Decal Devs happy with the state their project is in?

I can't speak for the rest of the Decal Devs, but I feel it is coming along nicely. We're making it a lot easier for new developers and reducing much of the learning curve of Decal. This has been a long time coming, and is doing quite nicely. I wish we have more free time and someone with enough knowledge to completely re-do the rendering and view code, but no one with that knowledge has the time to do it.

Why do I feel as if nothing is moving forward?

You feel as if nothing is moving forward because you're looking at it from a very very far distance. At distances, nothing looks as if it is moving. In order to see movement, you have to get closer. The people in #ACDev could tell you of movement. The plugin developers in the Alpha test could tell you of movement. You can't expect movement from being outside and looking at a distance. Especially not with alpha products.

Am I going crazy?

Probably

Dunno what Monarchy you are in, but we have an active one on HG and the majority of our people use Decal.

Did turbine wanting this to happen? - Who knows, I'm sure some do, but they sure as heck bent over backwards when one of the Devs blew a head gasket and said that Decal was cancelled.

Could they give more help to Decal Devs? - Yes, always yes. As to what help, have to ask them.

What haappend to the API thingy they were going to build into the game? - The inside person who was heading up this is no longer there. Further MEO and DDO happened. AC is a "back burner" program for Turbine (that is evident by other things that Turbine does/doesn't do).

Are the Decal Devs happy with the state their project is in? - Dunno. I know some of the App Devs are happy about what they are doing.

Why do I feel as if nothing is moving forward? - Dunno, call 1-800-GET-SHRINK grin

Am I going crazy? - See above.
