First let me state that I have no affiliation with the decal devs.
This post is intended for people who are too lazy to search for information.
The following information has largely been cut&pasted from posts at http://forums.acdev.org with some formatting and reorganization. Following links seems to be too hard for some folks so I have tried to keep links to a minimum. This list is not intended to be all inclusive but from the large number of redundant posts I read, it should contain the most common issues.
Please do not post your problems to this thread unless you can also include what you did to fix it.
A note on alpha testing:
Alpha testing is not about how the developers can help you. It is about how *YOU* can help the *DEVELOPERS*. Listen to what they are asking for and what they are *NOT* asking for and follow simple instructions.
**BEFORE YOU BEGIN**
1) LEARN TO READ
2) Get tested for reading comprehension skills.
3) Be sure you have Windows Installer 3.1 installed
4) Install the 2.0 .NET framework
This will be required for some newer plugins and should be installed
*before* you install decal.
5) Follow the clean install instructions from the following thread:

Issue: This application Failed to start because d3dx9_27.dll was not found.
Issue: Decal bar does not appear in-game
Resolution:
1) download http://decal.acdev.org/files/D3DXSetup.exe
2) run this file

Issue: failure to start because MSVCR71.dll is missing
Resolution:
1) Search for MSVCR71.dll
2) Copy MSVCR71.dll from it's current location to Decal's directory

Issue: decal doesn't appear ingame
Try:
1) check Display settings and ensure color depth is 32bit not 16bit

Issue: decal not working with Win2k
Status: issue with CharacterStats
Resolution:
1) wait for next release

2) install WinXP

Issue: decal not working with Win98 or WinME
Status: decal does not offer support for Win98 or WinME
Resolution:
1) install WinXP

Issue: AC crashes to desktop when you click on a button on the Decal Bar
Issue: you get a "cImage::loadPortal Failed Loading Portal file ID" error message
Status: likely related to insufficient video memory
Try:
1) run fewer plugins, especially graphics-intensive plugins with large, complex views or plugins with HUDs
2) upgrade to a video card with more memory
3) adjust AC game settings to use less memory
(reduce the game resolution, run in fullscreen mode, lower texture detail settings)

Issue: If you get an error message about inject.dll
Resolution:
1) Start->Run...
2) regsvr32 "c:\program files\decal 3.0\inject.dll"

Issue: I can play a character just fine (and exit), but if I select a second character,
log him in and exit, I get a standard error message box (titled acclient)
with the text acclient has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.
and inviting me to report this to Microsoft.
This happens while the character is in portal space (exiting the game)
and before the character selection screen reappears.
Status: Problem with TreeStats.

Issue: decal not working with Win2k
Status: issue with CharacterStats

3) uncheck Char Stats filter in Decal and try plugin.
Some plugins do not use CS and will work.

just to be clear: the video card issue is most likely *temporary*, so you *probably* do not need to purchase a new video card if you're willing to wait a while longer for a 'better' decal release.

I noticed on the decal forums (sorry I'm too lazy to register there) that you can't run in 16 bit color and have decal show up..
well its been showing up ingame for me and working for the most part.. I'm having problems running 3 clients w/ decal at once so maybe that will do something.
edit: maybe my graphics card was getting fussy switching between 16-32 bit colors when i was alt tabbing between accounts. I kept getting a blue screen. I would think my ATI Radeon X850 XT Platinum Edition would be able to run a bunch of clients... oh well I'll fool around with it more tomorrow its late.

What is "this fix"?
I'd say that most of those issues are common with users in any version of Decal, and most of the resolutions seem pretty accurate..
the only one I'd add is that if Decal is not displaying ingame, make sure that the Export doesn't show the Application in the Launcher.ini file as being ACDCClient.exe unless you have ACDualClient 7.2.2 installed. Otherwise, it should say ACClient.exe.

the problem is.. there are MANY issues.... you specified only one (based on gramatical context).
some of the issues might have already been fixed.. some of them are still there, but the workarounds are valid, and some NEW problems came up.. so there really is no good answer to your question unless you tell us exactly WHICH issue you were refering to... you can't refer to them all at once because they aren't the same thing.

Drakier, I think you misunderstand - this is not a post about any specif problem. This is a general Decal post - which you have not read -about many general problems which may cure or not the issue.
So without calling you names - I am only asking if these general fixes from 3 months ago are still valid for issues that may or may not be happening now.
Sine you are so full of your self and unhelpful, I would suggest you dont post unless you read and think before clicking.

actually .. I DID read the whole thread.. which lead me to the question I asked you.
and once again, I will reiterate.. there are MANY Decal issues in this thread.. it is not a thread about 1 specific decal issue. That is why the title is Common Decal IssueS and not Common Decal Issue.
Each issue is unique and has a different symptom and fix. They cannot be classified as the same.. the only thing they have in common is that they are problems with decal. You cannot classify by TYPE of problem or FIX to lump them all together because they are each unique.
And to reiterate my last post... some of the issues in Decal have been fixed.. some however haven't and the fixes listed still work for the most part for most of the problems that are still ocurring.
why is it always about Ego with people who dislike Decal or it's developers? You always assume that Ego plays into all our posts... It has nothing to do with ego.. unless you are referring to your own... the real question is.. did YOU read the post? If so, you would have nicely noticed that there is more than 1 issue listed, and more than 1 fix.

i also have to say.. that that might not fix problem either.. cause i know even if you have enough.. Direct X 9 is very buggy as is...
If I had a choice in either i ran DX 9 or DX8 or lower.. i wouldnt run DX9 thats for sure.. but everything requires DX9 now adays.. so it doesnt matter
