Metacritic score is 94. It was released in 2010 so it's not like it's even an ancient game.

Gonna try it now. Can't pass it up at that price.

Ooh, looks like Mass Effect 1 is also available for $5.99. Does it matter if I play them in order?

You can. ME1's story feels rushed a bit.

Just wait till it goes on sale for steam. I think I picked of up me 1 & 2 for like 7 bucks total.

edit:

I would suggest playing them in order. Choices you make change certain things about the story.

Access to many of the downloads I had purchased from direct2drive ended after they became gamefly.

I'll choose another company.

I'll pass on Ass Effect.

Replaying Might&Magic 7 instead, from GoG.
Now that's a kickass game!

peace

yes it matters in what order you play them.

play mass effect 1, carry your mass effect save over to mass effect 2, so that way what you did in mass effect 1 affects what happens in mass effect 2.

beat both and carry over the mass effect 2 save over to mass effect 3, so your actions in both games carry over.

Get to Mass Effect 3 and realize that nothing you did really matters.

this is true approximately up until the last like 15 minutes of the game, at which point you are given the same 3 options regardless of what you've done before! super duper awesome way to end the series.

get to the ending of mass effect 3 and nothing really matters.

I had the best possible endings in both mass effect 1 and 2 and it affected the storyline somewhat, saving everyone you could in mass effect 1 and two gives you more military points, having saved wrex makes it easier to get the krogan on your side, so does saving Mordrin, legion and tali surviving, and tali not getting exiled makes getting the quarians and the geth easier so on so forth.

and what Caolin said, the last 15 minutes though I got the ending I wanted I had to choose it, and I could have chosen any ending, which is where people feel cheated. I honestly think they should have limited it depending on what you had done.

I played 2 without playing 1 and didn't really feel like I was missing out on anything.

It's worth 6 bucks but not a whole hell of a lot more.

Does that include all the DLC? Most of it is crap but there are a few that are worth playing, although not worth paying sticker price for.

ME1 & 2 are both great games. ME1 has a lot more inventory management and planetary exploration, tends to take many more hours to do everything. ME2 is more episodic team building, seems to move more quickly, and I enjoyed it as much or more. Play ME1 first imo, the default choices at the start of ME2 are kinda crappy.
