Subject: So, this place is going away?
It's a brilliantly sunny morning outside right now. I can see the blue sky through the new buds on the trees from my computer. Not so different a morning, I imagine, from the one the day I created my first account on VN. I didn't quite make it ten years -- that would have been in August.

I haven't been around much, lately, and I probably won't be here much more in the future. I might pop in every once in a while, but I think I want to take a moment to formally say goodbye.

I think I'll always have a tremendous amount of nostalgia for ACF, and VN in general. I was 15 when I started reading AC content on the Vault, and just barely 16 when I registered to post here. That means I've been here for more than a third of my life. ACF has had a more profound impact on me, as a person, than a forum maybe should -- certainly more than I think most people would believe. But I was here a lot during the last of my more formative years, being a douchebag of a religious zealot, and getting called out on it. ACF helped me learn to pick my battles, helped me learn to just calm the <eff> down sometimes, helped me become, in the end, a better person. This place may be a vestige of its former self, these days, overpopulated by trolls, quick to anger me when I try to read it -- but I suspect, in the end, I will remember it as it was before. ACF, through the end of my teens, is a big part of how I remember the old days of the Internet, before social networking took over, before the rise of reddit (which, as entertaining as it is, rarely gives me the intellectual stimulation the forums of old did), before it became what it is now. I liked that old Internet.

I would offer specific thanks to some, but there are simply too many people -- just know that, if you are here, whatever awful things I may have said in moments of weakness over the years, I appreciate every last one of you. I think of the denizens of ACF as my friends and my family, and I will miss all of you.

I might poke back in a few times today, or over the next couple of days. But, before I forget: Goodbye.

(And, holy crap, do I still really have three copies of LOTRO: The Mines of Moria? Goddammit, I thought I'd gotten rid of all of them.)

Stay Classy Ferd, and remember to wax that unibrow! (and if you can get your hands on any PAX tickets at a reasonable price, let me know.. I somehow missed them going on sale.)

Uh... I don't think PAX Prime tickets have gone on sale, yet, or I'd have seen hordes of friends talking about it on Facebook. PAX East is this weekend, and unless you're already in Boston, I don't imagine you'll need tickets for that.

Find me on Facebook, and just wait to see me excitedly talking about buying my tickets. You'll know when they're on sale that way. tongue

I'd be kind of surprised if ACF doesn't suffer a massive exodus as a result of the move.
