R.I.P. Thomas Kinkade

My wife and I actually a couple of his paintings, well, reproductions of his paintings. He was known as the "Painter of Light."

You reminded me of my favorite 'painter of light', Albert Bierstadt.

a German painter that traveled around the US to scenic wild places, and painted them. His use of light is so stunning and consistent in his works, that even though I'd never seen the specific painting, I knew it was one of his from across the room when I saw it at the Seattle Art Museum.

its a large painting, probably 7 feet high and 10 feet wide.

That Kinkade fellow apparently died pretty young at 54 years of age. RIP

As for Albert Bierstadt, I like his work.

Ugh. I don't like Thomas Kinkade work. But still sorry he passed on too soon.

My mom and I were both super surprised that he was only 54, we both thought he was 80+ for some reason... maybe just because of the sheer amount of work he's done.

I never disliked Kincaid's paintings, but to me they always seemed...I don't know...kitschy? Contrived? Staged? A bit lifeless? I always thought they were pretty, but they didn't appeal to me, if that makes sense.

Never heard of Albert Bierstadt until now but I went and looked at his paintings- a lot of those are much more to my taste.

However, surrealist art is still my favorite, and Dali is thus far my favorite. Except the floppy clocks. Dunno why but I don't like that one lol.

RIP Kincaid. 54 is young sad
