Boards Archive] |
Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

After much deliberation, I'm going with the Ruger 10/22 carbine. Light, accurate, relatively quiet, ammo is plentiful and easy to carry. Over 5 million sold so parts will be easy to find. Unquestionably lethal using long distance head shots versus shambling targets. My only criticism is that it lacks the practical stopping power to defend oneself from a determined *living* enemy. Discuss.

butcher knife dipped in cream cheese, you cut off one zombies head and the cream cheese makes other zombies come eat it's corpse then you can chop them up while they are feasting.

I do like the 22LR for a zombiepocalypse. The big factor for me is the same as you, I have thousands of rounds of 22LR. Now when the S hits the fan, and i don't have time to take head shots with the 22LR, I am going for a 9mm JHP for a pistol and 7.62x39 rifle, you still have lots of rounds in the magazine, plenty of penetration to hit the CNS of the zombie. 7.62x39 simply for the abundance of ammo worldwide in that caliber, and the heavier rounds have some good knock down potential vs the 556. Granted distance shots would be better with the 5.56, I just don't picture myself sitting on my roof trying to tag zombies that are 400 yards away, waste of ammo. If abundance of ammo or cost wasn't a factor, I would pick the 6.8 SPC, a relatively new cartridge that out performs both the 5.56 and the 7.62x39 while still fitting the AR-15 style modular platform. It has similar drop rate/accuracy to the 7.62 nato, making it better at moderate to long distances than either cartridge, but it also carries more energy at the muzzle than either the 5.56 or the 7.62x39.

Good choice on the 7.62x39, the AK platform is battle tested and will never fail you. Have you considered the 7.62x51? Another NATO round so availability is good, and in a pinch you could chamber and fire .308 Winchester.

You are right 7.62x51 nato is abundantly available but in a close quarters type situation I personally wouldn't want all that recoil. If I was in a situation where I was reaching out to targets beyond 200 yards, that would be a great round. My zombie anatomy knowledge is lacking but I imagine the core to stopping them is hitting the brain stem/spine. If that is the case, just about any round that can penetrate 12+ inches will do. What I always enjoy about a zombiepocalypse discussion is how seemingly serious everyone is while debating, despite everyone knowing the absurdity of the discussion. That and it gives me an excuse to talk about guns and ammo - which ultimately makes me want to buy more of both...
