I'm trying to get a prescription for Adderall. What sort of doctor is my best bet? I've got health insurance that covers Familydoctors and internal medicine doctors for $10 so I want to avoid going to a specialist.

4 years ago I dropped out of college because I could not complete the foreign language requirements. I got tested by a psychiatrist for a learning disability and was diagnosed with an audio processing disorder and prescribed adderall. Mostly to get the school to allow me to take alternative courses to fulfill the requirement. The school declined, but the Dr. told me my LD would specifically hamper my ability to learn foreign languages and Math. ( and as an English major I see no conscience in this. No, none at all.) It was a very simple test but I improved by about 25% on adderall vs. off.

I'm going back to school in a few months to finish my degree and do not want to go through the expensive the psychiatrist put me through just for some meds. I have a letter from him he wrote to the school which states the dosage he put me on and I'm hoping that and my explanation is enough.

Anyone have a prescription for this or Ritalin or the like? I hear any doctor can prescribe it but are wary because it sells on the street as a sort of cocaine alternative.

You would either need to see a psychologist or I think a general practiconer could also write a script for that. Not too sure. I know regular docs can write Xanax scripts (that's who used to write mine at least)

It's good advise, but simply not practical. I've already spent five years in college, I took Spanish in High School, Latin, Italian, and French and failed them all (and I never really fail other than languages). If getting addicted to a drug that increases my performance is the worst thing that comes out of my graduating, I think it would be more than a fair trade.

Besides, I don't really get addicted to stuff... except masturbation maybe, but fu if you think I'm giving that up!
