Yup, for sure! http://www.uogamers.com/ is the best free shard out there IMO, it is AoS I think, so no paladins/necros/samarais/whatever. Mix of OSI and custom rulesets (custom rulesets I think go as far as some custom items for show/flash, housing, and dueling/events). Normal/Pvp of course and no doubt a murder system. I don't think factions though but I could be wrong, think it is guild vs guild however

http://www.uogamers.com/knowledge/questions/89/How+do+I+join+UOG:+Hybrid

To join, it is easy and free. I am downloading now

Hmm not sure what ya mean, I think there are some ridable pets out there other than horses if that's what you're asking. OSI stuff like firebeetles, perhaps drakes. I know I had an Ethernal Firebettle from being a veteran on there, pretty sure at least

Unattended macroing is allowed for non-gathering professions, I see that as a huge + to me since nothing is more mind numbingly boring than smelting a billion iron chestplates or crafting a ton of chairs.

I think outposters would really like UO, this would be a very group effort kind of thing as UO isn't exactly the most solo friendly game in the universe. Lots of fun though and well worth the experience for those who have never played.

UO I think still rates as one of the best MMO's to come out. Graphics are shit compared to today's standards, but the gameplay was solid and toward the end of my playing days, it was fairly well balanced. Skill was definitely needed to play that game well and survive the PVP.

UOGamers: Hybrid is set in what OSI players will remember as the Publish 15/16 era of Ultima Online. For Hybrid we went back to the basics of what made Ultima Online such an exciting game and added in some of the best ideas which came in later publishes as well as some of the standout items from earlier times in Ultima Online This blockbuster combination resulted in an unprecedented game play style providing any kind of player a home here.

The overall goal for Hybrid is to create an environment that caters to every play style and allows even the casual gamer to enjoy Ultima Online the way it "used to be". As a result you'll find skill gain is much faster here than what you're accustomed to on the original shards. PvP is balanced and standard gaming systems like Factions have been added. You will also find unique systems which add to our rich game play such as our Texas Hold'em Poker which allows you to play poker with your friends in Ultima Online, a complete dueling system with a ladder system that will allow you to compete against the best in the world for bragging rights (with a rule set customized by you, to your specifications) and original daily events by our professional staff.

Combining world class programming with enterprise grade hardware and a best of breed staff we have created a shard like none other. Our track record of ten years speaks to the longevity of the server with a daily average online count of over one thousand players and an all time peak of nearly eight thousand players online it solidifies our position as the top free shard gaming experience in the world.

Sounds fuuuuun wink

Some shard i played on had a pet system, you could merge dna from pets to make new and stronger ones. it was a messy cluttery shard and this doesent sound like the same one.

It's a weird phenomenon. I've played with lots of Outposters in WoW and Vanguard and they're some of the best gamers I've ever played with (GC, Yuki, Cabby, Fred, Illy, Mo and Bleu Kitty to name a few). But the people here are, I dunno, what's the word I'm looking for? Not 'fickle.' I guess people here just play a ton of games and rarely stick with one game long enough to bother forming a guild around.

I don't think I've ever gamed with anyone currently posting here. I'm always up for new games though. That said, I am horrible at most games. Think of the worst player you can remember....that was probably me and you just didn't know it. tongue

Despite that fact, I'm fun to have around, as you can be assured that someone will be worse than you if I am.

Yup. The natural tendencies of Outposters to be rugged individualists makes them bad candidates for group activities like raiding.

I believe Outposters make excellent first person shooters but putting them in a situation where cooperation and teamwork is involved is a recipe for failure. I saw it in Vanguard, I saw it in DDO, and I saw it in Rift.

Good people. Bad teammates. love

We had a solid group going in DDO for a number of weeks iirc. I really enjoyed that. Part of the problem seems to be that we are mostly working folks and live in different time zones, so finding evenings free to group together can be a pita.

That really seemed to be a lot of the problem in Rift as well. Combine that with some people playing predominantly during the week versus others during the weekend and you have an even bigger pain when trying to group with some folks. I actually had fun in the Outpost Rift guild. Until I realized I would (and did) hate the end game that was Rift and got bored fast. I see no reason why I would not have fun with the same people that play during my play times as well in GW2. And I hope this time PvP doesn't suck. happy

Oh they'res like a 700 or so total cap limit on skills, so max 7x gm or whatever. At least I think. I downloaded it and installed it but I patched it too much cause I wasn't watching it sad !

I am down for any shard you guys suggest though. That one was just a suggestion, if anyone has any better ones I am all for it.

Also to be honest for me I will play a ton... until Diablo 3, then I'd probably quit to tell the truth.

How is this supposed to work? I downloaded the client from EA and ran the patcher but it didn't indicate what patch it was downloading, so I wasn't sure where I needed to stop. I dug through my box of old games and could only find the Third Dawn expansion; it includes a UO: Renaissance installer so I'm installing that now.

When you run the patcher you can see what version it is currently updating to, just gotta watch. the patcher is called uopatcher.exe inside the game directory

After that there's instructions on installing Razor and putting in the UO Hybird IP address in to connect to. Installing from UO:R might not be enough, think you have to use the AoS client

Starting from Third Dawn it looks like I've got about a decade worth of patches to download. I looked at the client link I downloaded from the official site and it says it's version 7.0.24.0, which is already past the 7.0.23.1 patch the Hybrid people recommend. This is madness!

Uninstall UO / reinstall takes about 5 minutes. Then open mycomputer/c/EA/UO/UOpatch.exe. It starts at about 7.0.16.0 or w.e, you need it to go from 16 to 21.2. While its patching open mycomputer/c/EA/uo/Patch and keep an eye on the file in there while the game patches, takes about 5-10 minutes. As soon as the file in the patch folder sais 7.0.21.2 press cancel right away. If it goes higher then that you will see snow all over the place.

I don't get it. Is this the right thing?

It installed the game, then when I ran UO Patcher it was already up to date. I think they may have just updated the .exe you get from the official site so you get the latest patch version included.

http://web.cdn.eamythic.com/us/uo/installers/20110617/UOClassicSetup_7_0_15_1.exe

That's the link it gives. It's dead. I think EA updated the installer to include the latest patch and got rid of the old one.

You might have to patch more but try this one:
http://www.shacknews.com/file/25592/ultima-online-classic-client-70103

Remember to stop it when it gets to 7_0_21, for sure
