You cite the Democrats' love of Hollywood. Are you referring to SOPA/PIPA? I ask because those weren't partisan. Republican Representative Lamar Smith from Texas wrote SOPA, while PIPA was started by Patrick Leahy, a Democratic Senator from Vermont. It had extremely strong support from both sides before the protests gained momentum.
