the car has outlasted three marriages. Mechanically, it's worn through three sets of shocks, 18 batteries and eight mufflers. Veitch bought the car in February 1964 for just $3,289.

She credits the longevity to a "near-obsessive" approach to the car's maintenance. "I've never been a destructive person and I've just taken care of everything, except my husbands,"

You'd think it would have rust problems.

Why would it have rust problems? While the steel used then is clearly inferior to the steel used now, she lived in a warm climate. No winters on a car make it easier for it to last longer. No road salt is also a help.

Depends on where in FL. The coast will destroy a car if it isn't well maintained. From the sounds of it though she took care of it so not as big an issue.

She's probably a better driver than most people between the ages of 16 and 93.

Piss off.

Car Crash Statistics Based on Age

Teens = Highest Risk Group: For every mile driven, teens between the ages of 16 and 19 are four times as likely to be involved in a car crash
Teenage Car Fatalities: 5,000 teens in the 16 to 20 age group die each year as a result of a car crash
Teenage Car Injuries: 400,000 teens in the same age group are injured each year in car accidents
Disproportionate Population / Fatality Ratio: Teens make up 10% of the population but represent 12% of car crash fatalities
Cost: 30% or $26 billion per year in costs are accounted for by drivers under the age of 24
Driving Habits: Teenagers are more likely to speed, tailgate and only 10% report wearing seatbelts
Teen Male Drivers: Of male drivers ages 15 to 20 killed in car crashes, 38% were speeding and 24% were under the influence of alcohol
High Risk Age Groups: People between the ages of 15 and 24 and over 75 are the groups most likely affected by car accidents
Senior Drivers: Drivers over the age of 65 are second most likely to die in a car crash

Safety Disparity: Despite the fact that older drivers are on average slower, safer drivers, they are more likely to die in a car accident than younger drivers

...."On the basis of estimated annual travel, the fatality rate for drivers 85 and over is nine times as high as the rate for drivers 25 through 69 years old."

being 93 has nothing to do with how well she can drive. I have a 93 year old great Aunt that doesn't need glasses, has her original teeth, lives by herself, and drives herself just fine. And I've ridden with her and she can drive just fine.

if the lady is 93 and can't see 10 feet in front of her, then i agree, she shouldn't drive...but just because she's 93 means squat. you people are so stupid sometimes.

Canada would have eaten that car up and spit it out by about 1975. That is the problem with the extreme climates we get here and the tonnes of salt they toss on the roads.

If anyone read the article you'd realize she stopped driving because she is legally blind and decided that after running a red she shouldn't be handling that thing.
