write protected SD card? how to un-write protect it?

any ideas? I have several of these 16G SD cards from Ford for map updates, and it specifically says on the packaging that "warining this card is write protected. It can not be used in any other device."
The little lock slide on the side has no effect. Its done internally somehow. Any idea how to fixt this?

put tape over it, still not working.... screw it, they are cheap these days....lol
