Lump sum certainly. I could get hit by a bus the day after I won the lottery. Would be nice for my wife to have the money for our kids later on. If you die while receiving annuity I am pretty sure that it all stops.

For most of the people who win the lottery, an annuity is the much better option. Because it makes it harder to spend it all in a binge.
For a responsible person, lump sum is probably better. But responsible people probably wouldn't be winning the lottery in the first place because they wouldn't be playing.

lump sum actually gives you more money in the long run due to inflation.
the difference between the annuity and the lump sum is: the annuity they invest it and give you part of the profits over the years (not all the profit they make from the investment just some.) lump sum they give you all the money they really have and you can do with it what you w ant (you should invest it and thereby gain more per year then the annuity would gain.
