You guys think this is true?! Almost sounds too much... but at the same time maybe plausible.

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2012/03/man-attacked-by-mountain-lion-saved-by-bear/

"A northern California man who says he was attacked by a mountain lion while out on a hike has a helpful hand – or claw – to thank for his life.

Robert Biggs, 69, of Paradise, Calif., says he was saved by a helpful bear.

Biggs set out Monday morning for one of his usual hiking and gold-panning trips near Whiskey Flats when he came across a mother bear, yearling, and cub sitting on a stream bank. Biggs said he stopped to watch the bears for a few moments, but, as he turned to leave, something jumped on his back and knocked him to his knees.

“My backpack raises up over my head and a mountain lion latched on to it,” Biggs said.
Biggs hit the lion on the head with a rock pick he was carrying when he saw the bear grab the lion by the neck, Biggs said. The two animals struggled on the ground for a few seconds before the lion got free and ran away, he added.

“I think the lion was stalking the bear’s cub and I got in the way,” Biggs said. “The bear walked calmly back to her cub after, and I wrapped my arm up with a T-shirt and went gold panning before I went home.”"

So this man got attacked by a lion, but he didn't let that ruin his gold-panning trip?

sounds like profanity to me

probably a good thing that mother bear was nesting her young cub else he probably wouldve been bear lunch instead of mountain lion lunch.  Still a rather miraculous story.

Yeah I don't know... I might believe it if it wasn't for "and I wrapped my arm up with a T-shirt and went gold panning before I went home." at the end.

i don't know about that, a cub with a mother around is a hard kill

once the lion saw the hiker the cub was a second thought and if the bear didn't intervene the hiker would be dead

This is obviously a lie, because everyone knows bears are the #1 threat to America.

I was talking to my dad about this and he mentioned that in a real event, the bear would not simply go back to her cubs after the mountain lion ran off. It would go after you. If the mountain lion was close enough to piss off the bear and send it into Protect Cub Mode, the guy was close enough as well.

That's his opinion but it sounds logical to me.

It really all depends on how much contact the bear has had with humans and whether they've ever bothered her cubs before. There is a momma bear up at my hunting camp that will let us go right up to her and her cubs and feed her/them and even sorta pet them... but if our dogs get within 100 yards of them she'll go ballistic and into defense mode. As a cub she was abandoned by her mother and actually protected and raised by the camp owners, so she doesn't view us as a threat. I'm not entirely that's a good thing, but its kinda cool. She doesn't bring the cubs around to us too often so their interaction with humans is a lot less, so they may be more aggressive when they grow up.
