well my old sprinter was at every 10k.

Changing the oil in your car every 3,000 miles was necessary in the 1970s, when most cars used 10W-40 oil, which tended to wear out within about 3,000 miles. Thanks to improvements in high-quality lubricants and tighter tolerances in the assembly of automotive engines, the 3,000-mile baseline simply does not apply to many cars on the road today; in fact, automakers now recommend you change oil at 5,000, 7,000, 10,000 or even as high as 15,000 miles for newer models under ideal driving conditions. For example, Toyota recommends you change oil at 5,000 miles for a 2005 Tacoma pickup, Honda recommends 7,500 miles for its 2002 Odyssey, General Motors suggests 7,500 miles for its 2007 Chevrolet Malibu, and Ford recommends 10,000 miles for its 2011 Fiesta. A 2008 Porsche Boxster can go 12,000 miles between changes, and a 2010 BMW 3 Series can go up to 15,000 miles before you change oil under ideal conditions; with this kind of complexity, it’s easy for consumers to be confused.

ROFL, I'm in the same boat! I was going to have it changed a few days ago but they decided to close an hour early that day, so I had to add oil to it instead, figured I added two quarts of oil, I'm going to get my $10 worth, dammit!

lol, i totally ruin parking spots everywhere. Sucks W124 Mercedes engines have such major faults in their headgaskets. Switched to valvoline maxlife to hope to maybe seal in the gaps but I think the gunk was what was keeping it from leaking so bad sad . I'll go through 2 quarts of oil in just a matter of a couple of weeks.

I put 280k on a Ford 4.0L V6 changing it about every 8 - 10k and never once had to add oil. It all depends on the engine and how you treat it.

I drive a saturn, they're notorious for eating oil after they hit 100k miles, but if you keep putting oil in them, they keep on running. I just hit 190k miles, the engine runs great, I think the suspension is going to give out before too long though.

My 1984 mercedes 500 SEC takes 8 frigging quarts and a filter that you have to take apart.

Hell when it needs tires I get another one and change the oil in that one, lol.

It's cheaper.

I checked mine on the site and it said 6k miles but then oh that's just if you don't drive in 90+ degrees regularly.

With the wacky weather in Vegas, I get the oil in my car and jeep changed 2 times in the summer (at the start of June then the start of September), then once again around the end of March.

Nope, my car has it's set of quirks, but that hasn't be one of them yet. I have idle problems when the throttle body gets gunked up, and I replaces a water temp sensor in the troubleshooting of the idle issues, and I effed up the clutch going through a puddle once, had the clutch partially engaged for half a second before thinking better of it, got a small amount of dampness in there and it had made shifting into first gear a PITA for anyone besides me (as I know the tricks), and nobody else can start my car, because the steering column is a little broken, again I know the trick of how to get the key to turn. I can describe the trick to people, I can demonstrate it for people, and they still don't know how it's done.

I don't mind the quirks though, I know how they happened, and I know they've not ever gotten worse than they are now, I would imagine they'd freak someone out who was buying the car though! I suppose it'll be worth more to pass it down to my daughter than to try trading it in when I go to buy a new car.

I did find a really great forum with step by step instructions often with pictures walking through some of the more common Saturn issues. I think it was through http://www.saturnfans.com/

I change the oil all the time, it's free for the life of the car so what do I care if I take it in before 3000 miles are up?

I put more than 400K miles on my last Honda Civic.

I might have changed the oil 3 times. Probably only twice though.

I have 280K on my F150.....can't remember ever changing the oil. Know I haven't changed it in the last 10 years.

Oil changes are the biggest scam in automotive history.

It's a marketing ploy to get you to come into the shop so they can sell you other shiz you don't need like air filters.

I tend to look at the sticker up on my windshield, think "hey it's almost time to get my oil changed!" then forget about it until I'm about 1000km or so over. So I guess I go every 3k miles or so. They set it for 5000 km.

I've never changed an air filter in my life. Well no, I guess I have. I own a couple of cars that I have serviced every other month because that's what you do when you have those cars, and I guess they probably change the air filters and maybe the oil while doing so.

It sorta irritate me, but I spent a bit of cash on those cars, and part of that cash was for "service" after purchase....so I take advantage of what I paid for, even though I don't really know if it helps or not.

I do know I have a 1962 Rambler that hasn't had an air filter replaced since at least 1981...the year I bought it. I did change the oil a couple of years ago, but only because it hadn't been started in a couple of years and I paid to have all the belts, hoses, and fluids changed just because. I told them not to bother with the air or fuel filters however....probably wasted my money on most of that crap anyway but I was feeling all posh at the time I ordered the maintenance and stuff.

I get mine changed every 3750m, as recommended by the manufacturer. The oil screen to the turbo gets clogged if you don't, even with AMSOIL.

Oil changes aren't a scam I've personally seen the damage from not changing the oil. how ever i run 10k between oil changes on my truck but that pig takes 14 quarts per change and i run 5-6k in my cars and vans. most cars are good to 5k because the quality of oil/engines has come up.

damn you guys need to find a more reputable shop for your service work the place i work at we would never do isht like that. its bad for business.plus it feels damn good to tell some one "your car is in great shape there is nothing that needs to be done right now" that kind of honesty is very refreshing to work with/for.

I stick to the recommended oil change mileage.

It's $40.00...rather dish that out and not worry about damaging my truck than try and save a bit of cash and always wonder...

Yeah, I don't screw around with oil changes here either. You can always tell when the high temps start kicking in by all the cars you see on the side of the road. I'd rather pony up the $ for the every 3/3 oil change than the $$$ for engine repairs.
