PALM BEACH, Fla. -- All turnovers will be reviewed from the booth with no coaches' challenges needed and overtime periods in the regular season will use the same scoring rules as the postseason after NFL owners voted to approve those proposals Wednesday.

The replay official already reviews all scoring plays.

With all turnovers now subject to review, it could lead to even more effective coaching challenges. According to ESPN Stats & Information, last season (the first with all touchdowns being reviewed), plays were reversed on 52 percent of challenges, the best rate over the last 11 seasons and 10 percent higher than in 2010.

The NFL rarely tinkered with overtime until two years ago, when the Saints won the NFC title by winning the coin toss to start the extra period, marching downfield and kicking a field goal.

The vote on adopting the overtime was 30-2.

An overtime in the regular season now will end on a team's first possession only if it scores a touchdown or the defense forces a safety. If the team kicks a field goal on its first possession, the opposing team also will get a possession. If it also kicks a field goal, the extra period continues.

Other rules changes: a team will lose a down for illegally kicking a loose ball; too many men on the field becomes a dead ball foul; and a player receiving a crackback block is now considered a defenseless player and will result in a 15-yard penalty.
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7747023/nfl-owners-ok-review-turnovers-ot-tweak

Really whats the point of even tackling anymore, give everyone flags or use two hands below the waist and your down.
To many rule changes just because a team got screwed out of a win or one of their star players get hurt.

Crackbacks have always been considered a penalty, just not 15 yarders.

your confused crackback blocks are what Hines Ward made famous.

you are thinking of chop blocks.

basically now you cant hit anyone that isnt looking at you, without incurring a 15 yard penalty.

I find it absolutely hilarious that a Wide receiver laying out defensemen with LEGAL blocks has caused them to cry so much that its now illegal for a WR to block... soon the offensive line won't be allowed to block anymore either... but it won't matter cause the defense will only be allowed to stare really hard at the QB and hope it breaks his concentration.

the crack back rule is an EXPANSION to the already in place rule.
it adds the defenseless aspect so you cant hit the head or neck.

maybe you forget Favre's from a couple years ago where he hurt himself?
obviously you forgot the Stealer outrage and the Ward rule.

and Cutt is clearly confused about team loyalty, but what he was talking about is in no way what a chop block is.

the NFL rule book is available online...read it before you tell someone they are confused.

um no before it was you couldnt hit them low, below the waist.
now its any type of block carried out by a offensive player outside of the tackles that is on a defensive player that isnt looking.

so the NFL just names penalties in their rulebook that dont exist?

http://old.post-gazette.com/pg/09083/957938-100.stm
again, think about the Favre hit where he got hurt.

http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2012/3/21/2891901/nfl-proposed-rule-changes-injured-reserve-rosters/in/2655871
Expanding the rule on crackback blocks that would make it illegal to hit players in the head or neck area

this is from the rulebook from last season...
CRACKBACK (ILLEGAL)
Article 11 At the snap, an offensive player who is aligned in a position more than two yards laterally outside
an offensive tackle, or a player who is in a backfield position at the snap and then moves to a position
more than two yards laterally outside a tackle, may not clip an opponent anywhere, nor may he contact an
opponent below the waist if the blocker is moving toward the position where the ball was snapped from,
and the contact occurs within an area five yards on either side of the line of scrimmage.
Note 1: A player aligned more than two yards laterally outside a tackle at the snap is designated as being
flexed.
Note 2: If runner (passer) scrambles on the play, significantly changing the original direction (broken play), the
crackback block is legal.
Penalty: Illegal crackback block: Loss of 15 yards.
A.R. 12.20 Second-and-10 on A40. Flanker A1 sets up five yards outside of offensive tackle A2. At the snap, A1 comes
back and crackback blocks B1. Contact is made at the A38 behind the offensive tackle’s original position.
Runner goes to 50.
Ruling: A’s ball second-and-25 on A25. Illegal crackback block. Penalize from previous spot.

so sorry, i see now that you said it wasn't an expansion, and said crackback was a chop block. silly

either way, this just adds to the crack back rule already in place and allows the league more players to fine for defenseless hits.

Well then they should make it where the defense cannot bring blitzes from outside the tackles too. All rushers must come up the middle. The NFL becomes a bigger joke every year.

You do realize you can't CLIP a person above the waste lol.

Clipping: Throwing the body across the back of an opponent’s leg or hitting him from the back below the waist while moving up from behind unless the opponent is a runner or the action is in close line play.

Also I have a bigger problem with all turnovers being subject to replays in the booth. I personally like the challenge system in place, no need to slow the game down any more.

basketball does suck for sure, but is it really fair to bash the NBA in a thread about a far superior sport?

can we talk about Cutt the Vikings fan?
