Subject: Blu-Ray Player Question
I got a question about the audio aspect of the blu-ray player... Had to buy a dvd player since my mother kept insisting that the one she had was still in good condition. I was like, "Uh, you can't even open the damn tray to put the DVD in..." I told her, "I'm buying one tomorrow." Went to Best Buy (didn't want to wait for shipping, lol)... Found a $100 blu-ray player on sale for $70 and with my $15 gift certificate taking it down to $55 then $60 with tax. I thought it was a good deal so I bought the blu-ray player instead of a dvd player like I planned to. But anyway...

I tend to wear my hearing aid when watching movies so I'm not missing the non-speaking portions (forgot I was Deaf? lol)... I just watched THOR on Blu-Ray and was like, "Hmm, is the audio amplified?" I actually had to turn down my hearing aid's amplification level. Yay for digital hearing aids? lol

So, I guess my question is... when playing a blu-ray disc, leaving the volume on the TV alone, does the audio tend to be amplified or is it just my weird imagination?

The Blu-Ray player is connected via HDMI cable to the TV, if that helps any... There is no other connections between the player and the tv...

Depends on the player and your cable box -- I have seen BOTH happen... One player type could have the TV on 41/100 for the same volume level of 21/100 with the cable box. Another player type could be 11/100 for the same thing. Just change the volume appropriately.... The player we had before this one eeked out volume so low and the cable box was amplified at the same time -- in essence if you watched a movie and turned it off without turning down the volume first you got blasted by whatever was on.

Recording levels vary from movie to movie as well.

Mangler had an accident on the way home from the liquor store. He was run off the road and crashed into a woman's clinic. It was one giant Pabst smear.

Another thing to note, one of the big things that Blu-Ray touts is the fact that all the audio channels are uncompressed vs a DVD where they are compressed. Since I don't wear a hearing aid, I don't know if this has any effect, but I would guess anyway that there is something to that fact.

Silvadel - We don't have cable tv service. We don't see the need for having the service. Netflix DVD is good enough for both my mother and I. We both are just too busy to enjoy the perks of cable tv, so if we want to watch a tv show, we'll just hit Hulu or the tv show's website. So, we just have a 1080p TV and Blu-Ray player. *shrug*

Jezza - you're missing out then tongue lol ...

Mangler - I thought about that... But I just wanted to check to see if it was normal for Blu-Ray's to amplify the sound or something...

Stormy - Ahh, that may have been it... I'll wait for my mother to get back from her trip to Vegas then we'll take a glance and see what's going on. THOR was actually the first Blu-Ray disc I played. I have other Blu-Ray disc's coming today (FLYBOYS) so I'll see what's up, lol...
