Good idea? Dumb idea?

So some guys at work are trying to set me up with someone who they work with, we work in different departments/separate buildings and whatnot. Bad idea? I am unsure, I really don't even want to date anyone at all myself so this isn't exactly my idea/my wishes, they're sort of just "doing it"

I wouldn't worry about it, if you truly are in different departments and buildings.

I dated a girl that worked in the office right next to mine awhile back. After we broke up it was a little awkward when I had to go over there, but then she quit and everything was back to normal lol.

I don't think it's dumb, it's one of the top places to meet people, your own place of employment. There are tons of married couples that met by working together.

It sure beats the bar scene.

IMHO the odds of it turning into something good are much lower than the odds of something bad happening. Do you really want to chance it?

Yup totally different departments and buildings, not that it avoids completely of ever having any professional interaction. Highly unlikely for sure, but still... She works as an assist to the guy who I know

Nope. I don't want to chance it. I told them I am not interested, even though I said I thought she was cute and stable and probably a wonderful person, I am not interested. Well apparently I guess they didn't think my opinion on it mattered I guess.

My conscience is telling me to tell you it's a bad idea.

That said I can only imagine the awesome stories that will follow so I think I'm going with "You should totally hit that!"

No harm in going out for dinner & drinks to see if there's a possible match or future.

But if it's for a casual hit and run f**k, bad idea.

It depends what sort of people you two are.

If you lead with your emotions and it goes bad then it will have not been worth it. But if you are rational intelligent people and it doesn't go well then you will both still be adults.

Here is a trite platitude: life is too short, go for it.

I don't think it would, at least that would not be my intentions. I do not do that kind of stuff.

My wife has taken me to far too many movies on this topic, where two co-workers go out, then some awkward moments happen, some hilarious shenanigans ensue, then in the end everyone falls in love and lives happily ever after for me not to endorse this idea 100%.

And surprisingly, every single one of those movies starred Jennifer Aniston playing the same character!

The worst possible scenario: you both work in the same department, it goes bad and you have a terrible breakup, later she gets promoted and decides whom to downsize.

Bad idea if you don't want to. The only way it makes sense is if you like the girl more than the job if push comes to shove.

Sometimes you must be open to opportunity anywhere. It is neither a good idea or a bad idea, it is existence unfolding and you participating in it. Enjoy yourself. If you are attracted then go with the flow.

Different department? Different building? Did you even know she existed before now?

Can't see too much harm here.

I guess there wouldn't be any harm. My big problem would be if things do go wrong then she works with someone I communicate with often. I sort of like to keep low-key at work
