Anyone play Sid Meier's Railroads?
|
I used to love the Railroad Tycoon games. I was bummed when they stopped at Railroad Tycoon 3. Then today I just read that Sid Meier's Railroads was actually Railroad Tycoon 4 but they changed the naming convention. Anyways, I was about to order it on Steam when I read a review that said they had dropped the "complication" of Railroad Tycoon 3 and gone back to the roots of the series. Personally I liked Railroad Tycoon 3 best of all so now I'm wary. Anyone played both RT3 and SMRR? If I liked the one will I like the other?

No no no no it is NOT.
Sid Meier's "Railroads!" is ultra-simplistic compared to the Tycoon games, and it is not a worthy successor to that title. Even on its highest difficulty setting you should be able to win a Railroads game blind folded it's that trivial.
There's a demo for SMRR on Steam, so download that first. You'll see.

The max difficulty setting for a random game in Railroad Tycoon II was 614%. Use to give me fits until I started playing like an investing game And Helen speaks the truth. Civ II was near infinite entertainment.
