I learned a couple things tonight.

Don't visit an Apple Retail Store at 7pm on a Saturday night. That place is crazy crowded.

The employees are not all "Apple Geniuses". I went to talk to someone about an issue with my iPad and the guy looked at me like I walked in with a dead skunk. He tells me they are not too good with diagnosing problems and I would have to schedule an appointment with an actual Apple Genius.

Turns out an issue I didn't notice earlier with my iPad, there is some separation between the top edge of the LCD and the glass, exposing the backlight. I can see a long thin strip of white light when looking at the iPad from an certain angle.

Out of curiosity, have you ever bought a tech item and been 100% satisfied?

I know I'm picky. But when I buy something brand new, I really do expect that is be 100% free of physical defects. I don't want any nicks, scratches, or any other weird blemishes on my product. It just bugs me I paid the same price as everyone else, but mine isn't the same quality.

This iPad for example, I had not idea about the screen issue for about a week. And it looks perfect when using it normally. I can only see the defect when I'm holding it at an extreme off angle. But now I know it's there. And it's just bugging the heck out of me. It's blemished, not perfect. I don't like that at all.

I tend to buy a lot of crap and get sad when my excitement bubble is burst and I have to return something and wait. I'm really bad with waiting.

if you only had it for a week, tell them you want it exchanged...

If you don't want to complain about anything you buy, don't buy anything that comes out of an assembly line

Oh come now. You know I enjoy complaining. happy

I scheduled an appointment with an Apple Genius tomorrow. We'll see if it can be exchanged. Though that is probably going to be tricky with the tablet back ordered for weeks already. We'll see.

And it sure it hard to get quality work from employees who spend all day long thinking if today is the day they should throw themselves off the roof of their factory.

Just came back from my appointment with the Apple Geniuses. I'm surprised, they were able to swap my iPad out with a new one. Just did a quick check and the screen appears to be perfect.

They always have droves of people in the stores.  You always have to schedule an appointment, which seems odd that their staff which addresses problems always are booked when the things they make "just work."

I scheduled an appointment for 10:50am yesterday. They didn't call my name until 11:30am. The whole experience felt like a cross between a DMV and Doctor's Office visit. But at least they did eventually take care of me, so I'll let the 40 minute wait slide this time.

couldn't have said it better myself.

edit: of course, i'm 100% certain that Apple users are the lowest common denominator on average. The iPad is an impressive device...but the users are on the lower end of the scale when it comes to "computer literacy." No need to argue with me...it's MY opinion after DECADES of observation.

No, but Apple has, and thus Apple users have.

No, but Apple has, and thus Apple users have.

However the new marketing revolution didn't start until Jobs returned in 1997. tbh it didn't make too much stride until first iPod came out. Those neon color apple computers were one of the worst computers imo.

2 things jump started apple after years of crappy management

OS X and iPod in 2001

Not even the stores have been around for decades.

If there was a Microsoft store, I'm sure it would be filled with users as well having problems.

Unless it is xbox RRoD, they will just blame it on the Hardware

Nope, but you seem to lack the ability to comprehend a point of view. The "decades" reference was referring to "Apple users." The comment was directed at users, not the devices in their hands.

I've been out of school for almost 2 decades now. I can remember apple vs. pc arguments back then. The fanboi mentality didn't explode until long after of course.
