Ned Mattered quite a bit in the book. I can say that as someone who has only watched three episodes of the show long after finished the first two or three books before hand. . . . Even postmortem, Ned is amongst the most important characters in the story.

It goes back to what I was saying in my book thread...I have a really hard time visualizing everything around her. I cannot identify with her at all. She makes stupid decisions and yet everything turns out fine for her. I just don't like her as a character whatsoever. If she and John are an end-game item because of their *possible* familial lines, I will be very, very unhappy.

I am saying his emotional attachment would have been much less for a lot of people.

I know, but that's part of why I cannot identify with her. She's younger than my own daughter! It's hard enough identifying with Sansa, but at least I can visualize what she goes through.

Arya, Jon, And the two Mormonts (father and son who is banished over there with Danaerys) are the ones I like...I'm like 85% done with book 2, and I'm sure at least 2 of them will die by the end...but as long as Joffrey dies, I'm good...and maybe Sansa dying wouldn't be so bad either, because she's effin stupid.

After ADWD I hate every damn character in the entire series, except maybe Tyrion. I honestly don't even remember anymore who has died, or who they are even. I've tried to block the books out of my mind because they are turning into such utter crap.
Authors should get a clue and realize that you might get 3 good books out of a storyline, after that, it's just wordy crap that you weren't talented enough to pare down to something interesting....or were more interested in making money than making something worth reading.
The TV show has been awesome so far, and could have two good seasons left in it...enjoy it while you can. If it follows the books, it will be all to hell after that.
